perfect fit, good quality

i put this filter on my 2002 sebring limited. it was a perfect fit to the OEM filter. i dropped the pan, cleaned out the pan and magnet, and cleared off any remenants...Read complete review

i put this filter on my 2002 sebring limited. it was a perfect fit to the OEM filter. i dropped the pan, cleaned out the pan and magnet, and cleared off any remenants of the seal. i put on the new gasket and o-ring (also in the kit). i put it all back together with 4.5 qts of castrol atf +4. easy job overall.

Filter did not snap in place properly even though it looked identical to the OEM filter that I had removed.

Advance Auto made good on the return even though I had already permatex-ed the rubber gasket to my transmission pan.

Do yourself a favor and get an OEM filter from the Dodge dealer before you drop the transmission pan. My OEM filter snapped into place perfectly the 1st time.fds

    All I can say is that despite this job being a really messy thing to do, at least this filter kit went in without any problem at all. The gasket was no problem and the filter fit perfectly into the transaxle. As far as performance is concerned, I see no reason at this point to suspect there'll be any problems with that either. The car runs fine with this filter kit in it.

      I purchased this filter for my 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.8 liter engine. This filter fit perfectly and the gasket for the transmission pan is nicely made and sealed without a drip. I prefer the gasket over the RTV sealant as it is much easier to remove if needed.

          (2005 PT Cruiser 2.4L Touring Ed) Routine fluid and filter change. This was a good product for the price and does the job. Be sure the filter fully clips into the base to prevent trans damage. Comes with a gasket, but I used RTV gasket maker for extra security.

            This transmission filter kit uses a very good quality gasket and O-ring for the filter but the filter itself has a plastic housing and therefore is less durable than a metal housing. If the filter was made of metal then this kit would be excellent.

                  The filter snapped into place and was fine, but the gasket leaked when filled with trans fluid.when I checked to see why, it had split in one of the corners just from snugging the pan down. I dropped the pan again and decided to use Permatex blue RTV instead. It held the seal and did not leak. I like Advance because of their great service, but this product was a waste of time.

                    Installed the transmission filters on a 1996 (3.3L, 200k miles) and a 2000 (3.8L, 120k miles) Dodge Grand Caravans. Once the pans were removed, the filters were both a good fit. Eliminated the lag in transmission down shifting and improved acceleration shift intervals. Generall the transmission operated mor smothly. The gasket is a thin rubber gasket. The OEM gasket was a two side metalized rubber gasket. you must excersize care that the pan is clean, not warped or dimpled at the bolt holes, and when setting/snugging and torquing down on the gasket/cover you do not extrude the rubber and end up with leaks.

                      Because debri came loose from the filter (The pressing of the parts in the the manufacturing process was not aligned and caused bits of the filter material to break loose and get in the fluid stream), it caused high pressure that blew out the gasket and caused major leak, good thing I wasn't on a trip.

                        I bought this kit while also buying a replacement tranny pan (the replacement had a drain plug and the oem did not). Cracking the seal on an RTV'd pan can be difficult and messy, but the frustration came after realizing the filter I bought was defective (the mating surface that holds the o-ring was too thick, and the hole was off center). This discovery was after I drained the fluid.

                        I called my local Advance Auto, and they brought a new one to my house and exchanged it on the spot (on a Sunday). The new one fit no problem, clicked right into place (just make sure the O-ring is lubed with ATF before putting the filter on, and make sure it seats fully).

                        As far as the included gasket not seating, I have a feeling other reviewers either didn't tighten in the right pattern, didn't use a torque wrench, tightened it up excessivly (the service manual torque specs are for using RTV, not a rubber gasket), or all three.

                        My factory service manual (04 stratus se) says to tighten in a criss-cross pattern. I start at finger tight, finally torquing to 144 inch/lbs with the aforementioned pattern. The FSM says 164 inch/lbs, but again its too much for a rubber gasket (the box for the kit says 144 in/lbs or under). Also make sure the mating surfaces are free of RTV (if you're dropping the oem pan for the first time). Also, it helps to screw (not force!) the bolts into the gasket before installation to make sure you don't pinch it while installing the pan. This also ensures you don't loose any bolts and that the gasket is properly aligned without the use any other grease/sealant. Also be sure to clean all of the bolts of their RTV before re-installation (brake-clean works well).

                        I installed it as written above, and no problems yet (its been 4-5 days). With rubber gaskets, more torque doesn't usually mean a better seal. Good luck!

                          Trans Fluid Qty: In changing out the filter on a 2002 Chry T&C Minivan (3.8L w/ 4-spd electronic transaxle) w/TrailerTow Pkg, how many qts of trans fluid are needed? And if leaving drain longer (i.e. 8-10 hrs overnight), will the torque converter drain out as well, allowing a more-through fluid changeout? [Sometimes the filter/gasket kit part detail on Advance's site indicates fluid type & qty requirements, but I'm not seeing anything recommended for this filter.] Thanks.

                            Use few drops of any adhesive and run a bead around the mating surface of the pan going completely around the bolt holes. Carefully lay the gasket on the pan and press it into the adhesive. Lift one corner at a time and let some of the solvent evaporate and stick it back on. When it is on good, turn it over and place it on a flat surface to set.

On this plate there are three lines of letters and numbers. On the lowest line, the first 3 characters are the transaxle type code. DGB=4 speed automatic transaxle DGL=4 speed electronic automatic transaxle DGM=3 speed automatic transaxle DDR = T850 5-Speed Manual Transaxle I don't have a completre list. If your transaxle code is not one of these, try google or ask your dealer. It also helps to simply note the shape and the number of screws that hold the transmission pan in place. NB: There is no dealer part for the gasket they use a 1/8" bead of black RTV silicone that is specifically AT fluid resistant and has a limited (1 year) shelf life.
