Does not fit '74 J10

By

from Petoskey

Comments about Driveworks Alternator - Remanufactured - 63 Amps:

Alternator is advertised as a direct fit for a 1974 Jeep J10. It is not. Wiring connections are a different plug type, and located incorrectly. Advertised as 63 amp, was told in store that it's 55 amp.

I picked up this alternator for an 84 CJ7, the rear housing was installed incorrectly. The rear mounting bolt and output lug were clocked 180 degrees off. The output lug hits the mounting bracket becuase of this.

Comments about Driveworks Alternator - Remanufactured - 63 Amps:

Rebuilt item installed well but then the generator light came on. Testing indicated the generator rectifier bridge was defective. Uninstalled and returned to store. Wouldn't test on the bench tester - the clerk thought maybe his bench was broken. Got another exact generator off the shelf and it wouldn't test either. Unusual he thought.... Grabbed my original generator core from the morning - that tested - Bench not broken.

        Switched and bought better brand

Comments about Driveworks Alternator - Remanufactured - 63 Amps:

I used this alternator as a replacement in my 1979 Jeep CJ5. Switching it out took about 10 minutes. Fits perfectly and comes with pulley and bolts (I always keep the old ones just in case). So far I haven't had any issues, however, I only drive my Jeep occasionally/for fun.

Happy to help you with your question 9N Ford! An alternator will start putting out voltage and start charging the battery as soon as the engine is started (at idle). The more RPM the more charging output by the alternator.

                  • Q:

What is the alt rpm range?

I have a DIY diesel genset that has a fixed rpm, 1800rpm, the genset has a 4" pulley and the alternator has a 2" pulley.

So, I have a 2:1 ratio, my calculations put the rpm of the alternator,Part No. P7127SE, at 3600rpm.

Is this within the range of the alterantor (Part No. P7127SE)?

Do you have the "alternator performance curve" chart available?

                    Thanks.

                      A:

I'd be happy to help you with that! I do not have the specific information you need, but think of it this way: A normal automotive vehicle idles around 700 RPM so the alternator needs to be able to operate at that RPM range while the vehicle is sitting still. The RPM range when cruising is usually 2500-3000 RPM, but that all comes down to gear ratio. Most vehicles redline around 5500 RPM, so the alternator will have to be able to withstand up to redline. I can not tell you for sure, but I believe it would work fine at 3600 RPM.
