    • Q:

The alternator that was removed had installation holes at 12 and 6 o'clock. The bolt at 12:00 broke off. Can I substitute an alternator with installation hole at 2:00 so I don't have to have 12:00 hole tapped ?

        A:

Hi Ric! I think I get what you're asking, but wanted to confirm. Do you want to know if you can mount that part up by the 6 o'clock hole only? That could be physically possible, but only using one mounting point might not secure the alternator properly and could cause it to pivot. If that's not what you're asking let me know and I'll try to help you out.

        A:

Once the serpentine or V belt is removed off the pulley, there should only be two or three bolts holding the alternator on the vehicle. Remove these bolts and you should be able to take the alternator off.
