Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Trunk Lid Release Motor With Plastic Housing:

I've owned several 85-90 model year camaro's with this trunk pull down motor for nearly 18 years now, and I've had to do the job of replacing them at least 6-8 times since they are a poorly engineered part (GM's fault, not this part)

These have always been notoriously difficult and expensive to find parts for, so all replacements I've done up to this one have been used parts sourced from junkyards or online.

I'm happy this this was an affordable solution (especially with promotions on the website), and better yet a lifetime warranty too. It installed quickly and it does the job as it should.

    My only two regrets are:

1.)No one sells the complete assembly. You need to reuse most of your original parts and it does take some time to swap this part in.

One of the parts that do fail most is not included in this set - the plastic guides that the motor moves up and down on, but they can be found online. Many people replace the motor not realizing that the motor probably failed because the guides were damaged/deteriorated which caused extra wear and tear on the motor itself.

2.)I don't like that buying online, even if I do store pickup and get it an hour or two later, is a much lower price than just walking in the store and purchasing counting coupons/promo codes.

Does this include the assembly too? My motor works fine, but the assembly flexes so the trunk does close straight down.

The way I did it was to unscrew the four plastic plugs to remove the plastic housing on the lower trunk area, unplugged the motor, unscrewed the metal motor housing, remove the tension springs to the little magnets that touch the motor, then put the arm back inside and turn it towards the back to lower the latch. Adjust the latch by testing the locking of the the trunk. You will need to adjust this a few times to match the thickness of the plastic if you want to leave it that way. I put the housing back on to keep everything in place. It took about 30-45 minutes.
