The factory sway bar is a hollow tube with each end crimped flat then drilled through where the links attach. One half of a crimped end had broken off. This sway bar is not hollow and is shaped almost identical to the factory sway bar. It is stenciled "drivers side down" on one side to set the correct orientation for installation. However, this would have the sway bar installed exactly opposite the way the factory bar was installed. Each end of the bar turns forward and then has a curve that either dips down or up depending on which way you install. I went ahead and tried it the way it was stenciled just to make sure. In this orientation the ends curve up. When you put on the links to the control arms and isolators that attach to the frame, the sway bar interferes with the tie rods. Yes, this is when the suspension is unloaded but the factory bar was installed so the ends dip down and miss the tie rods. I installed the sway bar just like the factory sway bar. Everything lines up and travels as it should so I think the part was stenciled incorrectly. It is obvious that the curved portion at each end is there to create clearance with the tie rods. Cost me 30 minutes because it's not easy to get the sway bar in and out by yourself.

Pay close attention to which way the part is installed. Read the tag attached to the bar which identifies the driver side end. The bar will not fit if it is installed reversed. Depending on the application it may be necessary to remove items such as tie rods to gain adequate clearance.

This is a great product! the fact that it's not hollow makes me very impressed. The old OE part acutally broke off at the end on one side,..didnt realize this until I did a visual inspection of my car which most people never get to do.

I discovered my original sway bar was broken when I changed my studded tires over to regular rubber. My boyfriend said with the way I drive my Grand Prix (fast and tight in the curves) I better get it fixed. The old one was hollow and full of rust. This new one is SOLID and heavy. It took us about an hour to get the old one off and the new one on. We used air tools for most of the bolts and a four pound hammer to knock the new one into place. I can really tell she handles better in the curves, no more roll.

Used on a 2000 Impala. Very good product. Getting the old sway bar out and the new one in is a TIGHT fit. I supported the body and the sub-frame with jack stands and made more room by loosening the rear sub-frame bolts. The extra inch from letting the sub-frame droop from the body made all the difference getting the new bar in.

I'm happy to help, Ted! The bolts may or may not be easy to remove on your vehicle. This depends on the vehicle's condition, where it's driven and how it's cared for. I see you are in the rust belt. Vehicles in the rust belt may be more difficult to work on parts that are exposed to the elements, especially snow and salt. A rust penetrant such as WD-40 Specialist Rust Penetrant (Part No. 300004) or PB B'Laster (Part No. 16-PB) may help with any stuck bolts on the sway bar.

You may also want to purchase a repair manual for your 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette 3.4L V6 for detailed removal and installation instructions, Haynes Part No. 38036.

first of all press your e brake down then put the car on jack stands on both sides take your tires off cut the bolts off at the wheels usea saws-all or a torch they will be rusted and will be a pain then take your 15mm socket and go as far as you can with it and then you have to use a wrench and take the frame bushing out take all the old bushings off then wiggle it out of either side and you will have the old one out .............now feed the new one in one side makes no differance which side when you get it in position the bolts ats the wheels nut side coming up with nut on top replace those bushings in the same order they were on the old one DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM the bushing at the frame put those on you may have to use a pry bar th line everything up now you can tighten those at the frame so before you tighten the bolts at the wheels do both sides of the bushings at the frame and when you have that done finish tighten the bolts at the wheels and thats it

Certainly. You might have to cut or twist off some rusted nuts, but they are junk anyway. Easier than a brake job.
