It is not built the same as the OEM part. The fans are designed to be removable (better than OEM which are not removable), but one does not sit at the same depth, causing problems when installing the factory heat shield on that side. After some modifying, I got the heat shield to install, but there was no air gap behind it, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's life expectancy is quite low.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Radiator Fan Assembly Without Controller:

This part went on a base 2001 Impala with a 3.4L engine. It did not have the heavy duty cooling capacity so if yours is like mine, make sure you get this one. The part fit up to everything just like the OEM that was taken out after 217000 miles. Make sure to remove the following parts before starting this job and your installation will go much better: remove bottom black plastic air damper on the underside of the car below the radiator and frame. This will allow access to where you need to see and work while having the car jacked up and working underneath it. On the top of the car, remove the top radiator hose. This has to be removed in order for the old fan to be removed and the new to be replaced. Installation can not be done without doing this. GM has placed on the original fan a plastic keeper screw on the very bottom of their fan to attach it to the frame. It is practically impossible to remove and re-install on the new one, but this part has the hole for it if you want to try and re-install it. I didn't see it to be necessary since there were other bolts securely holding the fan assembly in place. There is no hardware except the fan assembly included with this part, so keep all your clips and bolts as you remove them from the old. You'll be using the on the new part which will match up perfectly. This was a great fit and carries AAP's Limited Lifetime Warranty on this product. If your fans are in need of replacement, this is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned!

The product fits well, with no major issues. One minor issue is that the fan motor covers do not easily fit without finding an alternative means of attachment.

One nice thing about this unit is that it has screws for the motors. The original had brads; and, I could not find just one motor. I kept the other good one just in case -- I figure I can fit it to the new unit if one of its motors fails before we sell the car.

Prior to buying I read other reviews that talked about it would or wouldn't fit, etc. Long and short of it is if you can see a part in front of it, it needs to come off. After this realization, everything went into place perfectly and the product works without any additional fabricating. The guys at the N. Fry location are very knowledgable and always patient and respectful. They represent Advanced very well. FYI, since you'll be taking off hoses, etc. good time to replace if needed.

Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

One fan is not working. I'm told that is why the AC shuts off and blows hot air because the condensor overheats. Is that correct or do both fans only cool the engine?

                        A:

Yes, in some vehicles there is a sensor/switch in the system that detects pressures or temperatures and if the the pressure or temperature coming out of the condenser is too high, then the system will shut down.
