The Dorman intake manifold was easy to replace. The OEM intake emanifolds are known to melt the opening for the EGR stovepipe and leak coolant from this location. The Dorman product comes with a new replacement stovepipe tube that doesn't make any contact with the intake manifold and is also easily installed. The instructions give you the exact torque specifications and order of tightening the manifold bolts. I reccomend replacing the lower intake gaskets and the Valve cover gaskets while you have everthing else apart. There is simply just more room to do so and it will only cost you an extra $100 to do and is not that difficult do either.

An Improvement over OEM

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Plastic:

The Dorman manifold is an improvement over OEM. There is a better choice(ATP Greyworks) which has a steel insert that goes into the troublesome EGR stovepipe hole. This insert virtually eliminates the burn thru issue associated with the hot EGR gases.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Plastic:

I strongly recommend that you use a pliable gasket sealant on both sides of gasket. The gasket was already installed but seemed warped. This is the reason I would recommend pliable sealant on both sides. Do not use hard type sealant as it may lump and harden before you full install. The gasket just snaps onto manifold by three clips and removable is very easy. By being pliable you have lot of time to set unit into place and in case you have to adjust part you have the time before sealant takes hold and farther down the line incase you have to remove it will be easier. I have done this before on an earlier version so know this from experience. Must point out clean all mounting surfaces well.

Install was easy enough but discovered after startup that the surface on the mounting side was defective and caused engine coolant to enter cylinders causing further problems ! Upon inspection the manufacture failed the smooth the plastic surface causing the leak :-( Advance did except it as a return.

I found the intake leaking after a no start condition on my 96 Park Ave. Turns out the coolant was making it's way into the cylinders and not allowing the plugs to fire. I thought this would be a serious pain to change but it only took 3 hours total including the lower intake gaskets and new coolant elbow.

                  Better quality than the OEM.

I'm glad to assist, Mike! The two aluminum sleeves included with this Dorman - OE Solutions Plastic Intake Manifold (Part No. 615-180) are intended to to replace the EGR tube in the lower intake manifold. They provide two sizes because GM used two different sizes on the vehicles that this intake manifold fits. This intake manifold fits the 3.8L V6 found in 1995-2005 GM cars.

The installation instructions are available here: http://www.dormanproducts.com/documents4rb/615-180_Instructions.pdf and some technical tips are available here: http://www.dormanproducts.com/documents4rb/Intake%20TechSpeak.pdf. You may also consider purchasing a repair manual for your vehicle. It will provide additional replacement instructions as well as torque specifications for this and many other projects.

I torqued this item according to the instructions. Numbers 5 and 10 (according to the torque sequence page included with the intake) crushed and split the plastic before reaching 75 inch pounds. All others torqued just fine to 89 inch pounds without any damage at all. Anyone else have this problem or heard of someone else having the same problem?

The OEM manifold, or "upper plenum" has an EGR passage which allows some exhaust gases to be recirculated for emission control purposes. Over time, the heat causes the passage to distort, eventually burning or cracking through to the adjacent cooling passage. When this occurs, coolant enters the intake ports, causing at the least white steam from the exhaust, and at worst, catastrophic engine failure due to lost oil pressure. The new aftermarket version has a metal tube that shrouds the EGR passage and prevents the heat damage.

My OEM manifold got a hole in it and leaked. I am looking for an aftermarket manifold that will correct this problem so that I will not have this problem again. Will this one do that?
