Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Includes Timing Cover Gasket & Seal:

I installed a new timing cover, oil pan gasket and speedy sleeve on my harmonic balancer at the same time. The timing cover oil seal leaked. I removed the seal with the cover in place. It came out effortlessly.
I put in a new one with gasket sealer on it. It does not leak any more. The original seal removed has a small needle size hole in the seal lip it.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Includes Timing Cover Gasket & Seal:

I don't understand the bad reviews. I have a 1995 Sonoma 4.3 Vortec with a "W" in the vin. I did have to trim the flange near the botton of the cover to clear the engine block. I compared the original cover to this one and trimmed it to match. Also the sealant that came with the cover was already hard in the package. The bolts on this kit were true and didn't wobble. As to the one review about the grommets splitting, I chose to lubricate the shaft of the bolts to minimize potential damage to the grommets.

Do Not Buy this part, within 12 months the supplied Grommets split and leaked.

Buy the GM part, although it costs more it will last for years.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Includes Timing Cover Gasket & Seal:

A real pain to install. New bolts that come with this timing chain cover are junk! Save your old bolts to be reused. The new bolts that come with this timing chain cover don't fit the engine block holes correctly & they will break off with very little effort. Had to use my old bolts with this new timing chain cover. After the pain of getting timing chain cover on correctly, a new bolt rung off & broke, and not from over torqueing. Had to remove timing chain cover to remove broken bolt from engine block. After getting timing chain cover back on correctly AGAIN, I had to use my old cover bolts to finish install. Use plenty of sealer at the "U" shaped rubber seal on this timing chain cover to help stop any oil leaks. Plastic made part that should be made of metal.

After installing timing chain pan; while installing water pump the bolt heads press up against the water pump. Had to torque bolts on then grind off the heads on two bolts(on the timing chain pan). Also timing marker is for children, needs advance marks and other marks(tried to type in the correct word will not let me). Suggest revision of part to manufacturer.

The cover is cheaper than the gasket set & it comes with all the seals on it already. Plus it is clean for you to reinstall. As long as you are doing installation correctly this should be a good product.

I Thought I'd would also save a few bucks by using this aftermarket piece, should have used a gm part instead. The bolts that are supplied with this were not true; they wobbled trying to screw them in. I had to use the bolts from old cover to install. Didn't get a chance to see if it would leak or not. I replaced it with a GM Part. I am amazed that companies will allow stuff like this to go out to their customers. They are not using their products, that is for sure.

I've installed GM timing covers on other 4.3 motors in the past with no problems. I Thought I'd save a few bucks by using this aftermarket piece, should have used a gm part instead. The bolts that are supplied with this were not true; they wobbled trying to screw them in. I had to use the bolts from old cover to install. When I re-installed engine back into truck and fired it up, the seal leaks around the balancer! Not an easy job to change out either!

Cover came with a small tube of gasket making product but no instructions as to where to put it. The cover already has a rubber bead seal around block mating surface. Are there detailed instructions available as to where to use the gasket material as well as the two washers that came with the cover?

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Mark! Typically the gasket sealant included with this Dorman - OE Solutions Timing Cover Gasket & Seal (Part No. 635-502) is used at the corners where the oil pan, block and cover come together. A repair manual for your vehicle will provide additional replacement instructions for this and many other projects.
