This was installed on a 2004 Explorer with non-climate control a/c and heat. For example, you have knobs to turn instead of a set temperature on the dash. If you have automatic a/c and heat then you want Part No. 604-207. These are the main (dash vents), not the rear auxiliary unit.

I popped this control unit open before I bought it to see if there is a quality difference. It had larger gears and even one extra gear to reduce stress. This is a MUCH better design than the original OEM part. The OEM part stripped out one small gear and rendered it useless.

It's been 1 year since I installed it and it's still working just fine. Hope this review clears up any confusion when buying on-line.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVAC Air Door Actuator:

The part itself works well, but is very difficult to install because of the rarity of its location. You need someone who knows what they're doing to install it. Other than that, the part works automatically.

Used for rear HVAC in 2006 Expedition Eddie Bauer. Rear HVAC has manual controls in front roof and rear console. I used this actuator to replace the one on TOP. There are 2 and the one on the side did not need replacing (yet).

Worked perfectly upon install. Its only been in for a few weeks so I can't attest to it's long term durability, but, totally beats a $100 oem part and $XXX in labor!!

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions HVAC Air Door Actuator:

As others said watch the videos on youtube on how to install... it was not that bad. I suggest taking old one out to make sure you match up the numbers right before ordering/buying. Took about two hours to get it out and an hour to get it back in (took my time to make sure I did not break any of the plastic pieces). Much better than the quoted dearship cost.

            • Q:

I have investigated the trouble i am having with my heat in my vehicle. Even with the fan off, if I turn my dial to hot, I hear a clicking under my dash, and with the fan on, it only blows cold air. My air conditioner works perfectly, which has led me to believe that this is the part I need. Can you confirm or deny please? I have a friend that will put it in for me as I cannot afford the labor at a shop, but I need to know that I am purchasing the right thing for him. Thank you!
