Remove the windshield wiper motor box

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

Good quality. The mounting brackets allow you to rotate the two tubes around each other which is helpful when installing. Looks like one of the hoses has a flow restriction nozzle pressed in ... maybe to replace the Chrysler flow restriction device on the original. No information included so I can't be sure. I remove the wiper assembly (see Chrysler van forum) which made this repair much easier.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

My 2002 Chrysler T&C EX van also fell victim to the rusted OEM steel heater tubing that runs between the front heater core and the rear heater core. The failure is due to: 1) a weakened wall section of steel tubing where an OEM tubing bracket was welded to the supply and return tubing just behind the passenger side rear wheel well and 2) winter salt and snow. Unfortunately, my van's heater tubing failure occurred on the coldest day of 2015 in South Jersey (-3 deg. F). Fortunately, the failured happened in my driveway rather than out on some highway.

I could have had the car towed to a repair shop and forked out over $600 to have the heater tubing assembly replaced. Instead, I decided to replace the heater hose assembly myself as: 1) I am mechanically capable and 2) I am cheap with my money when I can fix something.

I purchased the Dorman #626-301 replacement heater hose assembly from Advanceautoparts.com for about 1/2 the cost other major auto parts suppliers were charging via the use of an online coupon and a nice online sale price. Sweet!

It took me nearly 4 hours to extract the old heater hose assembly while working in 25 deg. F weather and covered in snow. I could have cut the removal time in half by cutting the steel tubing in half but needed to see what equipment had to be removed in order to install the replacement tubing assembly later on. I did not elect to remove the wipers and cowl but did have to remove the battery, battery tray, throttle linkage, spark plug wires 5, 3, & 1, ignition pack cable, and cruise control controller (loosened only). Unfortunately, with 5 minutes remaining, I broke the plastic inline flow restrictor located in the steel tubing hosing while extracting the 4 ft. long steel tubing assembly. I called my local Advance Auto store who got me a replacement flow restrictor via overnight shipping for no additional cost. Sweet again!

Several days later when the weather warmed up to about 40 deg. F, I installed the new heater hose assembly, replacement inline flow restrictor, and replacement coolant in about 3 hours. The new aluminum heater hose assembly was an EXACT FIT! (NOTE: Remove the short length of plastic tubing that is located inside the front heater core discharge rubber hose of the new heater tubing assembly. Instead, cut-in and clamp the existing inline flow restrictor or a new inline flow restrictor).

My recommendations to anyone attempting this same job are: 1) plan on using a back-up vehicle for several days, 2) purchase or borrow a cable operated spring clamp removal tool - A MUST HAVE!!!, 3) purchase your parts from Advanceautoparts.com using an Advance Auto online coupon, and lastly 4) have lots of patience as this is not a quick fix job if doing it by your yourself. The reward is that you will save yourself at least $500 smackers.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

Yep, my 2001 Town and Country fell victim to the salt damage from living in the snow belt. My wife was driving around town and sure enough, the hose rusted through like so many others. After using coupon codes, the final price was well under $100. Once the wiper assembly was removed and a few hoses pushed off to the side, the old rusted hose came out and the new hose slid in. It was nice that the new assembly included almost all new hose and clamps so I could just cut the old ones off, making installation a lot quicker and easier.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

OK this is a great product hands down. Instead of the garbage steel tube that Chrysler used this is all aluminum. It was pretty difficult taking out the old steel tube, and much more difficult to install. You will spend around 4-hours doing this job yourself. If you can get someone to help you either on the ground or above that would make things go much faster time wise.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

The hose fit perfectly, but it was tricky to install. I removed the battery, and unmounted the cruise control unit and then the hose could be worked in. It took two people, one on the bottom and one on the top to fish it in. Having a hoist to lift up the car was also very helpful.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Heater Hose/Tube Assembly:

This is a great replacement for the OEM lines. You have to remove the windshield wipers and cowling to install (see youtube). It's not difficult, but time consuming. The lines are a little hard to fish in from the top. Might be easier with two people. I had to force the lines past the exhaust shielding, but it fits great. Do the spark plugs while your at it. Check the tube off the water pump too. It will rust out just like these line. Good luck...

I have a 2001 Dodge caravan Sport 3.3L V6 engine. I have seen video of people removing battery box and cruise control to replace this hose. And I have seen the windshield wiper assembly removed. Which is easier?

              A:

These are the instructions for replacing the Heater Hose/Tube Assembly: Place a drain pan or bucket under the radiator and drain the system by opening the petcock fitting near the bottom. If the old engine coolant is not going to be used, dispose of it immediately because it is extremely poisonous. Remove the hose clamps from your old hose with a pliers or screwdriver, depending on the type of clamp used, and twist and pull the hose to loosen it from the fitting. Remove the hose and carefully scrape the fittings clean, then apply a small amount of gasket sealer to the fittings to assure a tight seal with your new hose. Apply sealer to the fitting only; this will help avoid any excess from possibly clogging the hose or a water channel in the block. Slide the clamps onto your new hose and install them, making sure that the hose ends slide over the fittings far enough to position the clamps properly. Tighten all the clamps, fill the radiator with coolant, and start the engine to check for cooling system leaks. Re-check the fluid level after the engine has reached normal operating temperature. Tools required for this operation: Screwdriver, Adjustable Pliers, Slip-joint Pliers, Hoses, Hose Clamps, Non-hardening Gasket Sealer, Antifreeze.
