Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Evaporative Canister Vent Solenoid Valve:

Had to canibalize the defective valve to make it work. Suppose to be direct replacement, but it was not. The original had a 90 degree end on it. the replacemetn was straight. Not enough room to install.

Hi Ranger, happy to assist you! The Evaporative Canister Vent Solenoid Valve is located under the vehicle before the rear axle just to the passenger side of the driveshaft. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes or Chilton repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts. Haynes Ford Ranger Pickup '93-'08 Repair Manual (Part No. 36071).

is this to clean fuel odors leaving fuel system while filling gas tank?

          A:

Hi Tuna, I'm glad to assist you. The EVAP system prevents fuel vapors from the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere. The EVAP system collects and temporarily stores the fuel vapors in the charcoal canister. The charcoal canister is filled with activated carbon pellets that can absorb the fuel vapors. When the engine is running, the fuel vapors are purged from the canister and burned in the engine. The vent control valve (solenoid), or simply vent valve controls the flow of outside air in and out of the charcoal canister.
