Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions C.V. Joint Solvent Welded Split Boot Kit Outer:

Bought this as a last resort and use it as a last resort. The directions are clear, but the part is poor quality. I welded the seems with the supplied glue, but when placed in the joints it had trouble staying together. It came with a shaft plug that was in two pieces(also poor quality), I had to modify this with plumbing tape to get it to stay in the boot. I ended up using high performance glue on the boot as an extra precaution.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions C.V. Joint Solvent Welded Split Boot Kit Outer:

My notes in addition to the instructions:
      0) Get brake-parts cleaner at the store while purchasing the boot (I found this in the instructions after returning home, so had to go back to the store).
      1) Next time, might be able to assemble the split boot on the shaft at a distance from the CV joint, even before removing the old boot. Then if anything goes wrong with assembly you're less committed.
      2) Only one tube of sealant for the whole job: use sparingly (more than enough grease, though).
      3) The small end of the boot is sealed by a "wedge" adaptor. This didn't fit perfectly, but it forms a somewhat redundant seal, and perhaps the far end of the boot is less critical anyhow (if grease makes it that far from the joint in order to leak out there, then that grease wasn't helping anyhow)
      4) When installing the metal clamp/bonds, orient it so the band comes toward you: it's easier to pull with pliars toward yourself/away from the chassis, than away from yourself/toward the chassis.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions C.V. Joint Solvent Welded Split Boot Kit Outer:

Got for a Geo Tracker. I think this would probably be okay if putting on a full size pickup. But hardly an exact fit for the geo tracker. The large end is much too large too get a snug fit on the cv housing.
And the reason for doing this is because losing grease.
Alos know that must glue one side together off the car and then wait one hour for it to set. Then put it on off the shaft and glue the second seam and let it sit for one hour before trying to put the bands on. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with a standard boot. Yeah there would have been more parts to take off, But I could have done it in about the same time since would not have waited on glue to set up. And one hour is if the temp is above 65 degrees. Even longer if cold out. Also note that these will NOT work on the inner boot.

Used this on the drivers side and after a year it is still holding up. Doing the passenger side now so installation should be much faster. Careful with the solvent. Use it sparingly unless they give you two tubes as in the photo.

What exactly does the CV Joint Boot do? Does it help or fix the CV joints problem; for example my Voyager shakes really bad at around 50 mph. It needs balancing and all but its only when you press on the gas.

The boot keeps the grease on the actual joints to help lubricate them and keep all the dirt and debris out.
