Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Anti-Lock Brake Sensor with Harness:

Paid for on line with online coupon and picked up at store 10 minutes later. Best price I found. This sensor was an exact replacement for my 2003 Silverado that had low speed activation of ABS that caused pedal fade. Replaced then reset ABS. Perfect

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Anti-Lock Brake Sensor with Harness:

The one-way fasteners were all in the exact same place as the OEM I took off. Nice touch. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I haven't had it on long enough to attest to durability.

Comments about Dorman - OE Solutions Anti-Lock Brake Sensor with Harness:

The ABS would kick in on my 2000 Silverado when stopping under five miles per hour causing me to continue to roll. This is a common problem when brake dust and dirt get between the hub and ABS sensor. I went to remove the old sensors to clean them and one of them broke off in the hub. This sensor was a perfect fit for my truck and very easy to install. The only difficult part about the install was that I needed to remove the rust from my truck in order for the plastic connectors to attack to the truck itself. Just a few minutes with a round file and they went right in. Just remember that you have to remove your wheel, caliper, and rotor to get to this sensor. It is very easy to change and this is the best price compared to the other auto parts stores.

        • Q:

2001 Silverado 2WD 2 door plain p/u has no ABS function working, and ABS light on dash is on. Sometimes the red brake light will come on also, but it doesn't stay on. Brakes are in good shape, but I have previously replaced whole LF bearing/harness assembly several years ago. Do you think I bought a defective part, and do you think the ABS sensor might fix the problem? Will mechanic's diagnostic machine be necessary to identify which component may be bad?

            A:

I'm happy to help, Rob! It's possible that a faulty ABS sensor could cause your ABS system to illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp on your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD 5.3L V8 standard cab. It's also possible that damage to the tone wheel or failure of another ABS system component has caused your ABS indicator to illuminate.

Intermittent illumination of the brake malfunction indicator lamp, could simply be low brake fluid, requiring the addition of some DOT3 brake fluid, such as Wearever Gold Premium Synthetic Brake Fluid (Part No. WLBFD312Z/W2001 [12oz] or Part No. WLBFD332Z/W2001 [32 oz]). It could also be a loose parking brake that falls and causes the light to illuminate as well. It could also be something more complex.

I recommend having the code read before buying parts to fix the malfunction. Typically, a mechanic will be able to read the codes with one of their scan tools.

Advance Auto Parts also offers Actron U-Scan (Part No. CP9599AAP). This mobile diagnostic tool works with your smartphone to diagnose your vehicle. The app is free and comes with OBD II coverage. You can add additional features by purchasing them in the app per vehicle or the whole list of vehicles offered. The additional features available are Powertrain Enhanced Data, ABS Codes and Definitions and Airbag Codes and Definitions.

The enhancement prices can be found in your smartphone's Google Play or iPhone App Store. If you do determine that you need to replace the ABS sensor, this Dorman - OE Solutions Anti-Lock Brake Sensor with Harness (Part No. 970-011) will provide you with a reliable replacement. If you do not already have one, a repair manual can also help with diagnostics and replacement (Haynes Part No. 24066 or Chilton Part No. 28625).

Happy to answer that question for you Rob. It may be possible the sensor may be faulty, but if it was defective it would have failed when you first got it. I suggest checking the master cylinder; the brake fluid level sensor may cause the brake light to intermittently come on and off if the level Is low. That may trigger an ABS trouble code causing your ABS light to stay on. Additional diagnosis from your mechanic will be necessary before you make any purchases.

            A:

I could be of help, Rob! This could be caused by several things. A diagnostic scan tool would be the only way to pin point the issue. It could be a hub/abs sensor, ABS module, rear speed sensor etc.

With reference to this Dorman - OE Solutions Anti-Lock Brake Sensor with Harness - part# 970-011 for installing the (ABS) wheel sensor on a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500, Raise and support the vehicle. Use a socket wrench to remove the tire and wheel. Disconnect the brake rotor with a socket wrench so you can release the mounting clips for the wheel speed sensors from the frame, knuckle and upper control arm. Unplug the electrical connector for the wheel sensor and remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt with a socket wrench. Pull the wheel sensor straight out of the bore in the wheel hub/bearing assembly. Clean the wheel sensor mounting surface with a wire brush to remove any corrosion and apply a thin layer of wheel bearing lubricant to the hub surface.
