Purchased the actuator and had it installed very quickly. Actuator shifted and locked the front end in but I found that the 4wd light wasn't working afterwards. Took the actuator back the next day and exchanged it to find the same issue.
After a lot of testing and tracing wires I determined the actuator had to still have an issue internally. Took it back to the store and returned the actuator. I then purchased a different brand from a competitor and installed to find everything was working properly and I had my 4wd light again.

Hi Mikey, I could be of some help! You can hold it in your hand and have someone put the truck in and out of 4WD and you will see the plunger go in and out.

Hi Joe, good question! Its a bit tricky to answer your question as it requires to diagnose various other issues like 2wd/4wd engagement, actuator wiring etc. This would require a mechanic's expertise to determine the exact cause.

                      • Q:

I have a 2003 Z71 truck. It has the 5.3 liter engine. My on dash switch seems to work fine. When I push 2, 4 high, or 4 low the switch changes fine and I feel and hear the transfer case shift fine. However, when I drive the truck I only have power to the rear wheels. When in 4 low, the power is there from the transfer case but only the rear wheels are powered. Is this the part I need.

That's a great question! From your description this does sound like it could be the correct part for the job. I would not be able to provide a true diagnosis, for that I would recommend a certified mechanic, if you need help locating one in your area check our Need Repair Help? link further down this page. This 4WD Actuator is for use with wiring harness 600-600 as an upgrade. For a stock vehicle you would require Part No. FWD32. I also found some information about how to test this. This information is use at your own risk: http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/60hcp-chevrolet-silverado-1500-test-4x4-actuator.html.

The first thing to check is the 4x4 fuse, if it is bad replace it. Next check the switch on the transfercase, connect a continuity tester to the switch and shift the transfercase into 4x4, the switch should close, if it does not then replace it. If the switch is functioning properly then replace actuator on front axle.

Look at the center of the axle near the driver’s side. You will see were the wires go into the actuator. Trace the wires and the connector. Next go back to where the wires go into the axle and that is the actuator.
