Comments about Dorman - Help Starter Rebuild Kit:

I only used two pieces of copper out of this kit, and after all the work to get the starter to where I could replace the contacts, I was praying that everything went back together correctly. It did and I've had no issues since. The kit gives you everything you need and then some to service a starter in a 3rd generation 4Runner.

Comments about Dorman - Help Starter Rebuild Kit:

I was asked by my brother in-law to see if I could find him one contact, however i could not find it in any parts store. The parts have not been put to use yet, but appear to be of very good quality. The good picture of the kit pieces played a big part for buying the part needed.

No. this just replaces the contacts. This kit does not rebuild the actual starter.

Same motor as 03-08 Corolla, and 03-08 Pontiac Vibe. Doesn't look like they can be rebuilt.

I recommend that you just buy a new starter. We do not have parts to rebuild a starter from that vehicle.

This kit(and I never knew they finally offered one here) repairs the intermittant click click then crank solenoid to motor issue. A great option to complete replacement. I used to have to find a chunk of copper(pipe etc) cut and shape and fit(chrysler etc), and rotate the bolts. Another option was to rotate the bolt(s)around 180 degrees then flip the round plate(delco/gm). As a kid we had to fix it all. Only a bad field/armature/motor issue would prevent repair. and many times we would soak and varnish/bake that short away. Brushes do not appear to be here, but you can sometimes find a local rebuilder of alternators starters to get those. then just clean the commutator and reassemble. I believe the solenoid sleeve is also available here to repair the no click or delayed click/crank issue (age and heat soak gets to the sol sleeve(gm/delco). A great fix if you have the time/talent! good job advance/dorman!
