Comments about Dorman - Help Seat Release Handle Kit:

original package came with 2 left handles not one of each, not Advances fault, from the factory. Brought it in to my neighborhood Advance and they returned it and reordered it for me. Next package had both handles. They were difficult to install and required some filing and Dremel work to get installed. Not a novice install at least on my Sonoma

      • Q:

The product shown on the web page and product I bought contains no set screw. Just a screw that fits down the middle. The screw is to short. How long of a screw do I need? Do I need to drill a hole in the end of the rod? Working with a 2000 Chevy S-10. I have the handle on but the screw doesn't screw into anything.

With reference to your inquiry on the Dorman - Help Seat Release Handle Kit - Part No. 77199 follows these steps for a proper installation: Make sure that you line the set screw on the replacement up with the groove in the stub and hold it. Then turn the set screw with the hex key provided with the handle. If it keeps coming off the stub as you tighten, the groove is too damaged to secure the handle. The sleeve can be flipped over to utilize the other groove by removing the screw holding it to the plastic part of the handle and turning the sleeve over. Finally test it a few times to make sure it turns the stub like it should and tighten the set screw if need be. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Line the set screw on the replacement up with the groove in the stub. Push the handle as far as it will go onto the stub and hold it. Turn the set screw with the hex key provided with the handle. If it keeps coming off the stub as you tighten, the groove is probably too damaged to secure the handle.
