Comments about Dorman - Help Radiator Overflow Tube Repair Kit:

Took about 12 minutes to complete the install. The product seemed to be compatible with any radiator on the market. Although a hole may have to be drilled. I suggest using a piece of wire long enough to get the part to its destination without falling into the interior of the radiator, where it may not be retrievable.

I'm happy to help, BBL! I just checked with the manufacturer Dorman and they updated that this part will work on most of the 70's and 80's Chevy. They helped me with some instructions which I would be happy to share, here are the details -

Instructions— Radiator Overflow Repair Kit 10691
          • Observe all applicable safety precautions during this repair procedure. Allow the vehicle engine to cool prior to opening the radiator cap or other cooling system components.
          • Remove radiator cap from filler neck, and insert a rag into the filler neck to keep debris out of the radiator.
          • Using a fine tooth saw, cut the broken overflow tube off as close to the filler neck as possible.
          • File or grind the remaining portion of the overflow tube to form a flat sealing surface for the “O-ring.” Finish the sealing surface flat and smooth using fine sandpaper or fine emory board.
          • Clear away any loose plastic and debris and remove the rag from the filler neck.
          • Working from inside the filler neck, place the inner insert through the overflow nipple opening.
          • Install the O-ring over the external part of the inner insert, pushing it all the way down to the sealing surface.
          • Install the outer overflow tube over the inner tube. Hold the inner tube with your index finger and thread on the outer tube until it contacts the O-ring seal.
          • Tighten the outer tube about 1/2 turn using a 7/16” wrench, while holding the inner tube in position with a flat blade screwdriver inserted into the end of the inner tube.
          • Reattach the overflow tube, refill radiator to appropriate level and replace filler cap.
          • Start and warmup engine to verify that the seal does not leak. If leakage is detected first allow the engine to cool, then tighten the assembly no more than another 1/4 turn. Repeat the check to ensure that no leakage occurs.
          Good luck with your project!
