Comments about Dorman - Help Air Conditioning Bypass Pulley:

The mounting holes are threaded. They should be larger diameter, clearance holes to allow the bolts to pass through and thread into the tapped holes in the mounting bracket on the engine. Once in place, the back of the pulley rubs on the head of a bolt in the engine block. The bolt head has to be ground down slightly to provide clearance. If you try to shim the unit away from the block to clear, the pulley alignment will be affected. The casting is weak. As I pulled the unit off to grind the interfering bolt head, one of the mounting ears snapped off with very little force applied. Be very careful if you buy one of these. I'm now curious to see just how long the off-shore bearing in the pulley will survive.

How would you like to enlarge each hole to 10mm? If you don't have a drill and a bit then; You won't install this product. How would you like to discover that you have to shim all three mounting points to get proper belt alignment? What a piece of junk.

1996 Chevy Caprice 4.3L. One size doesn't always fit all. Instructions didn't mention the need to shim. Mine was .170" off. Holes on supplied pulley are threaded, needed to drill out to accomadate factory 10mm bolts. No hardware, or shims provided. Paid [$] at Autozone. Alot of work to get the compressor out. Be prepared to work, have plenty of tools and time available. Cheap [...] part. How long will the plastic pulley, and bearing last? Will modifying void the Lifetime warranty?

This Pulley is much cheaper than the 1LE AC Delete pulley for these cars and this one comes with a lifetime warranty. If it squeaks take it and get another one. I have had one on my car for a couple of years and it just started squeaking they replaced it no problem. The expensive ones will squeak after a while too..

I wouldnt by this one if I were you...I did and my serpentine belt has squeaked ever since. I think the problem is that the pulley is made of plastic.

I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
