Definitely NOT an EXACT FIT for K1500

Cons

  • Difficult To Install
  • Missing Bolts Didn't Fit

Best Uses

Comments about Dorman - Help Air Conditioning Bypass Pulley:

Not an Exact fit for K1500. Bolts illustrated on your Website picture for this do not match what was provided in the box nor does it match the illustration that your employees have as reference for the "same product". The part requires machining in order for the cable stand mount and the upper radiator hose guide to be remounted through the bypass part and onto the air conditioning compressor mounting bracket. The missing bolts, required a second trip to Advance to obtain the M10 1.50 bolts

Time waster. Wrong bolts disqualifies this as an EXACT FIT part. Please advertise it correctly. You should mention on your applications what bolts are correct and should be attained to make it an exact fit. Additionally the part will have to be clearanced to allow for the oil filler support attachment. Any time saved by using this part is used up running back to the store and additional fabrication. If I'm spending additional time and reqiring two trips, I should have just gotten the correct bearing and replaced it the right way. Unfortuantely that was not in stock. 96 S 10 4.3 V6

Comments about Dorman - Help Air Conditioning Bypass Pulley:

Product is designed for use on many different vehicles so the included bolts may not fit. which is why it gets 3 stars. Example- if using on a Vortec 4.3 V6 you will need to purchase 3 M10 bolts and would also suggest washers. Other than that it was an easy install and works as it should.

Comments about Dorman - Help Air Conditioning Bypass Pulley:

The 3 bolts that came with the pulleykit were too small so I went to the [@] andbought 3 bolts that would work. Had to reduce thesize of the spacers by half the size to be able touse them. Other than this the product was easy toinstall. This was installed on a 1996 gmc pickuptruck V-8 engine with air conditioning.

                A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Dorman - Help Air Conditioning Bypass Pulley - Part No. 34174, replacing the ac compressor with the bypass pulley on your 1996 Chevrolet 5.7L is a bit tricky and needs some prior experience. You might also need some special pulley remover tool to complete the replacement. If you have not done this project before, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic. Do you even need this ? on some vehicles you only need a shorter belt, on the belt routing diagram it shows routing with or without a/c on my dodge pickup. Is this not so on chevy pickups ???

                A:

You do not use this with a compressor. You remove the entire compressor and install this if you do not want A/C in your car.

Yes it could as long as you block off the hoses that went to the heater core.
