Hi Allen, I'm glad to assist you! This is a universal coolant gauge. We do not offer any vehicle specific installation instructions for these. You'll have to look on your motors for a threaded hole in the coolant system to be used on that you can screw this into.

With reference to your inquiry on the Dorman - Champ Water Temperature Gauge - Mechanical - Part No. 7-120 the 1971 Buick 350 come with two threaded "ports" in the intake manifold, one on each side of the thermostat housing. You can use any one of these threaded ports to install your Water temperature gauge. A:

The plug on the driver side of the block on your Ford ranger is for the freeze plug. To install the Dorman - Champ Water Temperature Gauge - Mechanical - Part No. 7-120 you will have to drill a hole, install it, and get it nice and sealed. You will have to install it in a location where it will have contact with the coolant so that you can figure out how hot/cold it's running. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
