If replacing bearing pack, get one, you don't want to strip or break a spindle nut without a replacement near-by.

    • Q:

Is this nut the new design, to provide proper loading of the bearing in the wheel hub, with torque requirements around 120 ft/lbs? Early designs specified much greater torque which is linked to premature bearing failure.

    • Q:

How is this axle nut locked? There is no staking flange, and the vehicle does not have a castle cover and cotter pin.

      • A:

Look closely at a new axle nut like this, the hole is elliptical rather than round so the threads are pinched when it is installed.
