Comments about Design Engineering Hi-Temp Silicone Coating Spray - Aluminum:

I used this product on a plastic 2002 Chrysler Concorde grill, because silicone paint is more durable and stands up well to heat, including sun light. The spray paint applied evenly with no drips or splatters. I had to make a couple of repairs to the grill, so it wasn't perfect, but it looked almost as good as new.

Can I use this to spray my serpentine belt in order to clean and lube it? It is a new belt, but something is making a whine noise.

OMG, NOOOOO! This stuff is a high-temp silicone-based paint. Using it on your serpentine belt would be like using toothpaste to plug a hole in your tire. Would you do that? C'mon man, you've gotta be smarter than that. If you have a serpentine belt noise, it could be one of several different problems: Typically, serpentine belt noises come from defective belts (yeah, even "new" ones sometimes are defective!); from pulley misalignment (often caused by worn/loose bearings in the pulley(s)which allow them to ride cockeyed; and most often caused by a weak automatic (spring-loaded) belt tensioner. Belt dressing can be used as a temp fix, but 99% of the time, the noise will come back. Not only that, but belt-dressing tends make a belt fail sooner, and it often leads to even more noise problems. As a professional tech, I stopped using belt dressing nearly 20 years ago, and I'd don't recommend using it. You are only attempting to temporarily mask an underlying problem with belt dressing.

        • Q:

Listen, I've wrapped my exhaust with a cermic fiber style wrapping not sold in stores and it withstands a higher temp. Now I know my stock 5.0l efi wont ever get that high, except at the manifold, but will this spray work on my style wrap?
