  • Q:

Is air fuel sensor the same as oxygen sensor? I have a 2004 Lexus Rx330 and need upstream sensor. All I see are the downstream sensors. The one I am looking to buy is Part No. 234-9042. Thank you.

      A:

Hi Steve, glad to assist you! An oxygen sensor detects how much unburned oxygen is left in the exhaust system after combustion. The air fuel ratio sensor checks the amount of oxygen left, along with how much Carbon Monoxide (unburned Fuel) is left, making it much more accurate than an oxygen sensor. They look mostly the same, but are two different parts. The exact downstream sensor for your 2004 Lexus Rx330 is currently unavailable online.
