Used the original dust cover and no issues to date.Just purchased & self-installed 6/4/10 in less than 15 minutes. Be sure to properly align pin in engine block before tightening. This was improperly installed after an engine replacement and is what caused the original bearing to fail.

Quality doesn't appear to be best compared to some of the OEM AcDelco pulleys. The Dayco pulley I just bought shows an obvious seem in the plastic, even on the ribs of the pulley. The actual bearing is labeled NTN & made in Canada. Ironically, the same tensioner pulley I'm replacing had NTN bearings.

After comparing both, the Duralast brand at Auto Zone is exactly the same as this Dayco Pulley, just repackaged and slightly cheaper. This makes me wonder what the real difference is in cheap parts brands anymore.

If not needed in a hurry I would have just bought the OEM AcDelco pulley from rockauto for about the same price and a piece of mind.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Idler Pulley:

You can see the seam where the two halves of the plastic body were fused together; it is plastic like the original. I'm sure a few thousand miles will make the seam undecernable. On the Ranger, access the pulley bolt from beneath the truck. Use a 13mm socket; a bent-handle ratchet is ideal or just work with what you have. Bolt threads are right-hand. Make sure the belt is seated in the grooves of all the ribbed pulleys. Simple install.

Bolted right on, quieted the engine down. On Ford Windstar, the clearance is extremely tight for replacing this. It helps to pry the motor over with a bar and temporarily shim it while changing it, the extra half inch is essential to easy removal.
Also the large factory washer gets discarded before reinstalling or it will not spin.

Slightly thicker than OEM but otherwise exactly the same. I noticed a few other reviews said it is make from plastic whereas the OEM was steel. My truck was original and both were made from plastic.

You may be able to but i would consult your vehicle manufacturer because sometimes you can bypass the compressor with the same size belt but the belt is put on in a different sequence.

Yes, you just have to put this idler pulley right here up underneath the compressor and put the belt on it instead of the compressor. Most vehichles have the secondary routing drawing under the hood.

It very simple, (1) remove the passenger side wheel. then you have access to the idler pulley itself. (2) release tension from serpentine belt with 15mm socket and extention. (3) remove pully thru bolt. reverse steps for installation.
