Product Features:

product was in stock in and out in no time. got home and the assembly was keeping the coil pack from seating properly. had to space the coil pack for assembly to fit properly. when i put the oil dipstick back in i accidently hit the pully with the bolt bracket on the stick. left a straight scratch line on the pully across the teeth. not very durable at all. product fits everything except its just a touch over sized so plan on spacing your coil pack for this to fit. it was installed on a 5.9 L dodge durango.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

This Dayco belt tensioner was a very good replacement for on my 1997 Dodge Ram with the 5.9 liter V8. At first I thought it wasn't the right part because the size is slightly larger than the OE tensioner. Should have known not to doubt the Advance Auto crew. I had the old tensioner off and the new one on in a matter of 25 minutes. Taking the ignition box off (to the left of the mounting bracket)is a must. It fits correctly and I did not have any issue with alignment of the pulley in relation to the other pulleys on the truck. I like the fact that the spring is flat metal instead of round stock.

If your looking for just a replacement part with no particular performance or any other hyped up garbage than this will be perfect for you. I was just looking to replace my old worn out tensioner and didn't realize there was more than one to choose from. This is the part I purchased with no defects to date.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

Cons: As one other reviewer pointed out, the plastic pulley on this part isn't very smooth. It's an injection molded piece, and flash is left along the mold seam across the diameter which isn't properly removed. Ideally the part should be cleaned up by turning on a lathe. Next best is to grind or sand the flash off, or do as I did and re-use the old pulley. Also, there are sources where, if one is npt in a hurry, the tensioner can be bought separately without the pulley. Pro: The spring design is improved over OEM. For lack of a better term, it's a coiled leaf spring.

Comments about Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner, Light Duty:

The product is priced well and looks like a high quality part. After a short time the idler caused a rhythmic belt squeal. I took it off to inspect it and found that there were imperfections formed by the casting of the plastic. It was a small ridge that went across the pulley, most prominent on the inner edge. It wore my new serpentine belt just enough to make noise. When I returned it the replacement unit had the exact same imperfections. I used a small, fine file to de-burr the new pulley and installed it. So far it's quiet, but we'll know soon...

I currently have a belt tensioner that is sticking and dosen't seem to have any spring to it. When I changed the Idler Pulley and releaved the tension it just sat there and did not go back to the original location. My current tensioner is not sealed is this typical?

It is shot, take it off and recycle it, if it sticky, it no worky! Yes, it is sealed or supposed to be, replace your belt while you are there because running with lower tension could cause slippage and burnishing which will shorten belt life drastically.

With out the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.

Stop wasting your money, remove the belt and spin each pulley to isolate the squeak, sounds will resonate inside of an engine compartment masking the source. if you want to cheat before you pull the belt, buy a can of silicone spray, install the long red nozzle on the can, and delicately spray each component with the engine running, when the noise goes away after the spray you have found your source. *******keep your hands away from moving parts and do not be too liberal around the belt as it will carry the silicone spray and coat the other components. if it still did not help, check the alternator first as it has sealed bearings in the back of it that silicone spray will not affect.

Replacing this pulley may help, but the squeeking may be coming from the belt itself.

                • A:

it could be the pulley or just the belt. Dodge 3.9L belt tensioners are know to go bad after 110k mark.
