Comments about Custom Accessories Antifreeze Tester:

I have used these little bulb style antifreeze testers for years and have not had much problem. Lost mine today and bought 3 of these just so I would have a few extra on hand when I needed to find them. Out of the three, only TWO of them held liquid (the third had a leaky bulb so all the liquid would drain out before I could get a reading unless I covered the bottom with my finger). ALL THREE of them floated anywhere from 1 to 5 balls (not even consistently) when tested with PLAIN WATER straight out of the package. WORTHLESS junk....very poor quality.

Comments about Custom Accessories Antifreeze Tester:

I DECIDED TO PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT AFTER READING THE FIRST REVIEW. I HAD ONE OF THESE FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS IN THE 80'S AND 90'S. WORKED GREAT BUT THE BULB DETERIORATED. I BOUGHT A TESTER THAT HAD THE POINTER AND NEVER REALLY TRUSTED IT. THIS TOOL IS BASED ON A PROVEN PRINCIPLE...THE MORE DENSE THE WATER...THE MORE BALLS WILL FLOAT. THE MORE ANTIFREEZE IN THE SOLUTION THE MORE BALLS WILL FLOAT....QUITE ACCURATE. SO, I WONDERED WHY ALL BALLS WOULD FLOAT WITH PLAIN WATER AND TODAY FOUND WHY. I TESTED MY AUTOS AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY.... I THEN TESTED MY SON'S CAR AND FROM THE BEGINNING HAD DIFFICULTY WITH THE CORRECT NUMBER OF BALLS FLOATING. HIS CAR HAS A BAD HEAD GASKET WITH OIL IN THE WATER. WHEN THE BALLS BECOME COATED WITH OIL (SINCE OIL IS LIGHTER THAN WATER) ALL THE BALLS FLOAT EVEN WITH PLAIN TAP WATER. I CLEANED WITH A DROP OF DISH DETERGENT AND THE TOOL WORKED CORRECTLY. THIS TOOL WORKS ACCURATELY FOR THE MONEY. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS...YOU MIGHT NEED A 15 DOLLAR TOOL. SO, IF YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS TOOL, YOU MAY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR MOTOR.

I tested this product with tap water and the five balls floated; this means that my truck will be protected all the way to -40 with just water which is not true.

This tester determines the specific gravity of the coolant which determines if the coolant is good or bad.
