Curt Discovery Brake Control

Part No. 51120 Warranty Details
It takes a lot of power to stop a moving trailer, especially when that trailer is hauling a heavy load. On RVs, flatbeds, livestock trailers and many other oversize haulers, manufacturers typically install trailer brakes to assist the tow vehicle in bringing such a massive amount of weight to a halt. But it takes more than a good set of brakes to make quick, efficient stops. It takes precision and the right amount of control.Discovery is a time-based brake controller, meaning it applies increasing brake pressure the longer your foot is on the brake pedal. It has a digital display for easy monitoring and the ability to manage up to four axles at a time. Discovery mounts at any angle, anywhere in your vehicle and comes with an automatic power level adjustment feature to ensure you can stay better focused on your driving and spend less time worry about your trailer brakes. It is compatible with anti-lock brakes, cruise control and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. All CURT brake controls are designed to work with quick plugs so that they can readily plug into your vehicle's original equipment socket. They also include a mounting bracket and hardware for easy installation. A brake controller should be mounted somewhere on the dash of your vehicle, and we recommend putting it below the steering wheel, either on the right or left side of the steering column. This way the control will not block your view when driving, but it will remain accessible and visible when adjustment is needed.

Product Features:
  • Increases brake power over a preset amount of time
  • Operates 2-8 trailer brakes at a time (1-4 axles)
  • No internal moving parts and no leveling required
  • Digital display shows power adjustments in 0.1 increments
  • Mounts anywhere in the vehicle, at any angle
  • Features fully adjustable power and ramp time
  • Compatible with anti-lock brakes and cruise control
  • Equipped with a quick plug for fast, easy installation
  • Backed by a limited lifetime warranty

        A:

I'm glad to assist, Steve! You will use harness number #51362 for the quick plug. The brake control will have a roller on the top of it that will adjust the amount of braking to the trailer, the higher the number the higher the braking. But, this is not sold on AdvanceAutoParts.com. I recommend checking with your local store for availability.

        A:

With reference to your query on Curt Discovery Brake Controller part# 51120, the installation instruction is as follows. Install the brake controller bracket in a convenient location under the dash using the bracket supplied. This usually requires drilling two holes to attach the mounting bracket. Mount the brake controller to the mounting bracket. Some brands provide a simple snap-in type bracket while others utilize mounting screws that go in from the side of the brake controller bracket. Identify the brake controller harness for your vehicle. Most newer vehicles equipped with towing packages are now providing a wiring harness which looks similar the ones in the accompanying picture depending on the make of your vehicle. Connect the brake controller harness to the vehicles factory-supplied wiring. The part number for the pig tail is currently unavailable in online. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.
