This CURT class 2 trailer hitch with ball mount is made for light-duty towing, having a gross trailer weight capacity up to 3,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 300 lbs. This makes it an excellent choice for most smaller size trailers such as single-axle utility trailers, small boat trailers, popup campers and some recreational vehicle trailers. It is also perfect for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier or bike rack (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc.).CURT class 2 trailer hitches are generally used on full-size cars, crossover SUVs, compact SUVs, minivans and even some smaller pickup trucks. This particular hitch and ball mount combination is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Subaru Legacy sedan or wagon (including Outback and 2.5 GT) or Subaru Outback sedan or wagon (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). It features a square tube frame and comes with a hitch pin and clip and all hardware necessary for a complete installation. This class 2 hitch kit also comes with an old-style 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" ball mount to be a complete towing package.CURT class 2 hitches are made with innovative engineering that takes shape in quality materials. Our engineers work with real vehicles and advanced programs to design each hitch to succeed. CURT trailer hitches are constructed with American steel by state-of-the-art machinery and our skilled fabricators, welders and technicians. We coat each hitch in a liquid Bonderite coating that provides long-lasting corrosion, chip and UV resistance, and then finish them in a high-gloss black powder coat. Our quality processes and construction give us the confidence to include a limited lifetime warranty and a one-year finish warranty on all of our class 2 hitches. Best of all, we are proud to say that every CURT hitch is manufactured in the USA.

Comments about Curt Class 2 Trailer Hitch with Ball Mount:

Does not fit a 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5xt. The mounting brackets in the hitch are not wide enough to fit. After that was kind of fixed the hitch was an inch+ from the tow hook.

      NOT A DIRECT FIT

      By

Comments about Curt Class 2 Trailer Hitch with Ball Mount:

While the listing says it's a direct fit, it did NOT fit my 2008 OB Wagon without a lot of work. While I'm not a professional mechanic, I do all my own work from head gaskets to wheel bearings, etc., so I'm no novice at this. There are 2 brackets on the frame above the mufflers that need to be loosened (no mention of that in the directions) and even with that, the holes in the hitch don't quite line up. It appears the hitch should fit into slots in these brackets but there's no way it would go. Once the mounting bolts were in (2+ hours?), the hole for the tow hook at the rear was nowhere close to lining up. I had to go out and get a much longer bolt and elongate the hitch hole just to get it tied into that mounting spot. Even with that the hitch is about 2" below the tow hook.
This was a total pain the rear to install and it's apparent the company techs have never tried installing this on a real car. Choose another brand that hopefully fits.

Comments about Curt Class 2 Trailer Hitch with Ball Mount:

Pretty easy to install and was an exact fit for my 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon. Only challenge I ran into is two of the mounting bolts went in place of two existing bolts which were tight and right above the mufflers.

      NOT a direct fit

      By

      from Pittsburgh

Comments about Curt Class 2 Trailer Hitch with Ball Mount:

I ordered this hitch after speaking to an AA rep on the phone and he ensured that this would fit directly on my frame without any modifications. It also states that install is about 75 mins for a novice. I attempted an install myself but it required the lowering of both exhaust pipes so I opted to have it done professionally to save me time and aggravation.

When my car was put up on the lift and the exhaust was lowered it appeared as though it would be a quick install. This was not the case because the holes in the hitch did not match up with the existing holes in the frame. The hitch had to undergo some fabrication to get it hooked up correctly. IT IS NOT A DIRECT FIT ON A 2008 SUBARU LEGACY 2.5i

After the install problems I've had no other issues using it for a bike rack or camping tray so far.
