Comments about CRC Parts Washer Solvent:

After using this product for a few days (CRC Parts cleaning solvent, PN-05067) I have to say, I'm sorely disappointed. This "parts cleaner" has absolutely no effect on the ordinary build-up of grease, oil, and road dirt that accumulates on any auto part. Quite literally, this stuff has no more effect than cold water. After soaking parts for 48 hrs, the dirt on the parts is still perfectly intact, and the solution surrounding them is still crystal clear. After scrubbing the parts clean by hand, and using the "parts cleaner" as simply a rinse agent, I find the CRC solvent leaves a greasy/oily residue on the parts,
Honestly, I went back to the store and purchased the 96 oz "Gunk" parts cleaner the following day. I'm now using this little 1 gallon can of cleaner to clean parts; and then just rinsing them off in my nice big parts cleaner which now has the CRC solvent circulating in it. After that, the lack of evaporation of the CRC solvent has me blowing them dry for far too long to get them just nearly dry and usable. If I wanted to repaint any of these parts; I'd need still yet another solvent to clear the CRC off of them so the paint would stick. I'm restoring an old car and truck, so eventually, almost all of the parts will need to be painted.
What a train wreck. I can't continue to clean parts in this messy, drippy, three-step fashion when i have a perfectly good recirculating parts washer in my garage; so I 'll now have to clean out and properly dispose of the brand new CRC solvent before I can replace it with something that works.

Comments about CRC Parts Washer Solvent:

I chose this solvent for my 30 gallon drum parts washer and couldn't be happier. My garage is attached and this solvent with its low VOC appealed to me. It is not as aggressive as other solvents, but don't worry this solvent works very well. I use a parts cleaning brush and will sometimes soak parts prior to brushing the crud off. Hint: I run an auto oil filter relocation kit spliced into my solvent line with the largest oil filter I could fit - my 15 gallons stays a lot cleaner!

I used this in my parts washer to clean some heavily soiled parts. I might as well have just used water and saved the [$]. The parts came out just as dirty as they went in. This is less effective than Greased Lightning which you can get for a 1/4 of the cost.

Manufacture's Website shows that product is "5 gallons" which it isn't. Your website is more honest. You show "512 ounces" which is 4 gallons. I got a misleading Email response from the manufacturer about 6.5 pounds equaling 1 gallon thus 32 lbs is equal to 5 gallons which is certainly and intentially misleading. I would like for them to go into an automotive store or any other store and order 6.5 pounds of a liquid product in the U.S. .......milk, water, or even their product. You would be looked at as if you were nuts.

Happy to help you with your question Cajun. This cleaner can work but you will need a parts washer. Something similar to Part No INT31200A. Check your local environmental ordinances for disposal of this solvent.

Can this product be safely used in a parts washer that designates water based solvents (Chicago Electric Power Tools - item#7340), I understand CRC is not a water based solvent, but is it safe to use in a parts cleaner only rated for water? Or can you recommend a homeowner grade parts cleaner (20 Gallon) that is.

This stuff is basically a little thicker than diesel oil. It burns pretty well. Get a good fire going and toss a gallon milk carton full of the mineral spirits in the fire and it is carbon dioxide and and water vapor in a few seconds. It really never wears out. I suppose you could mix in enough oil to make less solvent but I have used mine on and off for quite a few years now and never replaced it. The dirt settles to the bottom and I just leave it there. I'm going to pour mine into some containers and let it sit for a while and after the new stuff gets a bit dirty I will decant off the top half of the containers and burn or mix the rest with some waste oil to recycle it.
