If your transmission has slight slips and the fluid is off color and gritty this might be your problem. If anything this fixed my torque converter shutter and overdrive engagement issue. The car practically shifts like I just bought it new off the dealership. This fluid is ford approved and uses good additives in its oil. I was going to buy the dex/merc stuff but someone suggested to go with what Ford recommends for their transmissions. If I used the universal dex/merc stuff I would end up with tight shifts. But this was worth every buck and the best part of it is I got it on sale from advance auto. If you know you need a transmission oil change and been hesitant about it because of what you've been told, News for you it's safe to do so with an AODE or 4R70W transmission because it's all electronic IMO, not hydraulic like in AOD's or C4's. You won't regret doing so and plus it will extend the life of your transmission and it'll be thanking you in better shifts and no torque converter shutter. Last, do NOT add any additives like L*cas transmission fix or friction modifiers they will damage your valve body or cause sticky valves. Just this ALONE does a wonderful job. PS. Torque converter shutter/shudders feel like you're running over bolder rocks between shifts.

Bait and switch, didn't receive Castrol!

Can't say anything about the product because I was the victim of a bait and switch scam... I paid for Castrol, but was given Advance name brand fluid instead.

Comments about Castrol Transmax Mercon V (ATF) Automatic Transmission Fluid (1 Quart):

I replaced all of the fluid in my 97 Taurus's AX4N transmission when the engine and transmission were out of the vehicle, It required about 13 Quarts total. The transmission's shifts are smooth and there is no shudder. Overall a very good fluid. The Castrol Mercon V is on Ford's licensed fluids list. It is a superior fluid compared to the old Mercon spec

I have a 95 f-250 4x4 and I was wondering what product if anything could I use for a small leak in transmission
Asked on 1/13/2017 by Jeffro from Lewis ky

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Hi Jeffro! In most cases, a transmission fluid leak is caused by a gap somewhere in your transmission. But it can be anything, the transmission pan, torque converter, pan gasket, fluid lines, or seals are all suspects. However, without the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it, nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Hi Joe, I'm glad to assist you! The correct grade of oil to use will be listed in the automobile owner’s manual. As far as whether to use a conventional or synthetic that depends on the driver, the conditions and the type of driving that you do. Both conventional and synthetic oils will protect your engine synthetic oils provide superior protection to conventional oils. Synthetics also provide much better protection at extreme temperatures and severe driving conditions. Some automobiles do require synthetic oils, this would also be mentioned in the owner’s manual. The lubrication guide recommended for the 2003 Ford F 250 Super Duty 6.0L 8-cyl Diesel is above 11° F: 15W-40 (Preferred viscosity by the manufacturer) -9° f to 90° F: 10W-30.
