Hello Jay. Happy to help with your question. Based off the research we did its recommended to use DExron VI ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) or equivalent. Based off that we suggest using Part No 06822. For additional information we suggest checking a repair manual or getting with a certified mechanic.

      • Q:

The description of Transmax High Mileage ATF says the product has extra cleaning agents. A highly regarded local mechanic frowns on the idea of detergents and/or extra cleaning agents being used in older transmissions due to the possibility of dislodging deposits and putting them into suspension. My transmission is at 240k miles, without having been serviced for the last 120k miles. Does the mechanic have a point, suggesting I'd be better off using regular Transmax Dexron/Mercon?

According to Castrol's ATF Guide recommended for a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer is Mitsubishi Diamond SP-III ATF. Castrol Transmax High Mileage ATF meets Mitsubishi Diamond SP-III fluid specifications and may be used in your application however Castrol Transmax High Mileage ATF is not approved by Mitsubishi.
