My 1999 Grand prix has 165,000 miles on it. Since it was new it burned 1 qt per 1000 -1200 miles. Lately I have tried brands of high mileage oil like Valvoline. Still burned oil about every 1000 miles per quart. Tried Castrol high mileage twice now. Have driven over 3000 miles with about 1/3 qt used. Since I change my oil every 4000 miles I never have to add oil. This oil seems to stay cleaner longer also where the other oils were black after 600 miles. I cant explain why this oil seems to not burn off. The most I have gone between oil changes since the car was new was 4500 mile. So the car has been well maintained. My wife's car has the same engine 3.8L 2001 Monte Carlo and does not burn a drop of oil even after 3000 miles no matter what oil you use so long as its a name brand. Maybe car are like people. See what works for you.

Good high mileage oil, but not as good as Mobil 1 oil. My engine normally runs quiet with Mobil 1 HM oil. This Castrol HM oil is not as good because my engine doesn't run quiet compared to the other brand. I am thinking that Castrol doesn't coat well.

Comments about Castrol GTX 10W-30 High Mileage Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug):

Recently we purchased a 1997 Silverado truck lifted up on 44's. We use it as a weekend mud truck. It had over a hundred thousand miles on the motor and Castrol oil helps make it run like new even though it's being abused constantly. I have use castor oil for over 30 years and I've never been let down. I plan to continue using this product in all of my mud trucks and all of my vehicles in the future. We can always tell a Castrol Motor compared to some of the motors we have takin a part where they used caker state or Pennzoil.

This is a great product. Granted many say oil is oil, but I only run this oil and another brand if not available locally.

I use this in my 98 Ford Expedition 5.4L 4x4 EB Edition and it runs like a top. I strongly believe this oil is one of the main reasons my Expy doesn't sound like it has a diesel engine (you other high mileage Ford guys know what Im talking about).

Comments about Castrol GTX 10W-30 High Mileage Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug):

As everyone has their favorite choice of oils. I've been using this product since early 80s as I was sick and tired with other Oil Products gumming up and buildups in the valve covers. It does not break down in heat it keep your motor cleaner. I have ran it in my race cars/as well as my airboat. I'm extremely fussy when it comes down the oil changes. That is the life of the motor.I never let anything go over 2000 miles without an oil change! I'm that picky about that. As people cannot understand why my vehicles last so long. I just told you why! oil filters are not all the same. So keep that in mind. As well. I do run a heavier oil in the summertime. Especially on high mileage motors. Happy motoring

                A:

Hi Yanielmg, I'm glad to assist you! The correct grade of oil to use will be listed in the automobile owner's manual. As far as whether to use a conventional or synthetic - that depends on the driver, the conditions and the type of driving that you do. Both conventional and synthetic oils will protect your engine – synthetic oils provide superior protection to conventional oils. Synthetics also provide much better protection at extreme temperatures and severe driving conditions. Some automobiles do require synthetic oils – this would also be mentioned in the owner's manual. Your lubrication guide recommends any of the Castrol motor oils in the 5W-30 grade would be appropriate to use in a 2003 Toyota Matrix.

Can I use this oil in a 2006 BMW 325Xi with 85,000 miles, or should I use the full synthetic oil? (This oil is part synthetic).

                A:

Hi Jungle Jim, glad to assist you! I always recommends following the guidelines of the engine manufacturer for the recommended oil (i.e. SAE grade, API rating and manufacturer specifications) specific to your application. This information can always be found in the owner's manual or by contacting the manufacturer directly. For a 2006 BMW 325xi (gasoline), as per Castrol’s lubrication guide, SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40 oil meeting BMW Longlife 01 is required. Castrol EDGE (formerly SYNTEC) 5W-40 oil meets BMW Longlife 01 requirements. Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-30 does not meet BMW Longlife 01 requirements so this oil is not recommended for use in your application.

                A:

Hi Muhammad, good question! At a minimum, motor oil should be changed as recommended by your car owner’s manual or the oil life indicator for the type of service (normal or severe) that the vehicle is being operated under. When motor oil is in use in an engine, motor oil additives will break down as they perform their job. This break down will continue over time and continued use, so it is important to change your oil to keep your engine protected.
