Castrol EDGE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug)

Part No. 03084C/03084 Warranty Details
Castrol EDGE is three times stronger against viscosity breakdown than the leading synthetic and leading conventional oils. The unique titanium technology physically changes the way oil behaves under extreme pressures doubling its film strength, preventing oil from breaking down and reducing friction to maximize engine performance.

Product Features:
  • Castrol EDGE with Fluid Titanium has twice the film strength of our previous formula based on the HFRR friction test.
  • Tested in 5W-30 versus all major conventional brands, Mobil1 and Mobil1 Extended Performance in the ASTM D6278 test.
  • API Service SM, SL and SJ; meets all requirements of ILSAC GF-4/GF-3/GF-2; API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils; Ford WSS-M2C930-A, Ford WSS-M2C153-H and DEXOS

Comments about Castrol EDGE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug):

Great oil for the 330 BMW CI Convertible.
Running long distances at high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter I need an oil I can trust it will work in any case. I have this oil for years now and never had any engine trouble. I have almost no loss (less than half a quart for 10,000 miles) and the oil looks and feels like new even after half a year. I almost have to question if it is possible to use for a year or longer, showing no wear symptons after 5,000 miles.
The best oil I ever had and I will stick on it as long as it will remains available...

  • Q:

I currently have my 2012 Chevy Cruze 1.4L Turbo that gets a synthetic blend which is changed every 5,000 miles at the dealership. If I used this product, what is the approved time and mile interval (ex. change every year or 7,000 miles whichever comes first)? I don't see it written on my manual. Thank you.

      A:

I'm glad to assist you! Castrol EDGE Extended Performance offers the strength to perform for 15,000 miles/24,000 kilometers or one year (whichever comes first) between oil changes however this guarantee does exclude severe service applications such as racing, frequent towing or hauling, commercial use, extremely dirty/dusty conditions or excessive idling and if your vehicle is under warranty, continue following the oil change interval recommendation of the vehicle manufacturer consistent with the type of driving you do (e.g. severe vs. normal). For all other Castrol passenger car oils, including Castrol EDGE (black bottle), these oils should be changed as recommended by your car owner's manual or the oil life indicator for the type of service (normal or severe) that the vehicle is being operated under. When motor oil is in use in an engine, motor oil additives will break down as they perform their job. This break down will continue over time and continued use, so it is important to change your oil to keep your engine protected.

      A:

Hi Gary, happy to help you! This Castrol EDGE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug) (Part No. 03084C/03084) is suitable for use in automotive gasoline and diesel cars where the manufacturer recommends an ACEA C3 5W-30 lubricant including those fitted with a diesel particulate filter. It is also approved for use in VW Group vehicles including those on variable interval servicing that require a VW 504 00/ 507 00 lubricant.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Hi Eric, I'm glad to assist you! Castrol no longer make an oil for BMW. However, we do have an approved motor oil that meets BMW Longlife 01 requirements which is the BMW specification for their gasoline engines. The exception is M series vehicles which require an approved 10W-60 oil (Castrol EDGE 10W-60 which has BMW exclusive approval for BMW M-models that require a 10W-60 lubricant). The product that we have meeting the BMW Longlife 01 specification (which is what the oil we made for BMW met) is called Castrol EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4 European Formulation. For BMW diesels, oil meeting BMW Longlife 04 is required so the product that we have which is approved for this BMW specification is Castrol EDGE 5W-30 for European Diesels.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

No, D, this Castrol EDGE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug) (Part No. 03084C/03084) is not for high mileage vehicles. The Castrol GTX 5W-30 High Mileage Motor Oil (5 Quart Jug) (Part No. 03102C/03102) will work fine on high mileage vehiles. It exceeds fill requirements for Ford, Honda and Chrysler vehicles where an SAE 5W-30 motor oil is specified. Also, meets API SM and ILSAC GF-4; exceeds Ford specifications WSS-M2C153-H and WSS-M2C930-A.

Hi Jsarri! Castrol EDGE with SYNTEC Power Technology (SPT) 5W-30 does not meet Audi/VW Standard 504 00 and 507 00 specifications. You'll need the Castrol EDGE Professional LL03 SAE 5W-30 meets VW Standard 504 00 and 507 00 specifications, but this oil is not sold on AdvanceAutoParts.com. I recommend checking with your local store for availability.

Is this oil good for my 2008 bmw x5 4.8i
Asked on 3/16/2014 by cj from nyc

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I'm happy to help, CJ! The type of oil you decide to use in your 2008 BMW X5 4.8L will depend partly on the ambient temperatures you are experiencing as well and some of your own preferences. According to the owner's manual this vehicle can run 15W40 API SJ, SL or SM Above 5*F, 10W-40 if the temperature is between 5*F and 68*F, between 5*F and 50*F 10W-30 and below 50*F 5W-30. Mobil 1 recommends 0W-40 European Formula for your BMW. Castrol and Pennzoil also carry lines of motor oil that meet the same standards in 5W-40 and 0W-40.

How many miles I can go without oil change in my corolla ? with Edge with Syntec Technology Full Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (5 Plus Quarts Jug) by CASTROL
Asked on 12/11/2013 by singh from somerville

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

That's a great question! The new full synthetic motor oils claim useful life up to 15,000 miles between changes. Of course you'll want a longer service life oil filter to hold the contaminants to keep your oil clean longer. I recommend checking your owner's manual to verify the standard and severe oil change schedule. We can check that for you if you can provide the year and engine size of your Corolla. Another great way to make sure you are changing your oil in the proper time frame is to send your oil off for analysis.

Please tell me rec. miles for oil change. I am using it in a 2012 Chev. 1500 with 4.8 V8
Asked on 9/29/2013 by Shane from Bradenton Fl

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Hi Shane, most vehicle manufacturers recommend changing the oil once a year or every 7,500 miles in passenger car and light truck gasoline engines. For diesel engines and turbocharged gasoline engines, the usual recommendation is every 3,000 miles or six months. When it comes to maintenance and repairs, always please follow the vehicle's owner's manual.
