The Ford lift motors in this van are notorious for getting "stuck" in the up position when the brushes hang up on the commutator. It's not practical to release the tension every time it sticks, and after two remanufactured units that both failed in the same way in less than 2 year's service, it was time to do the complete transplant. Ford riveted their regulator in place and to the glass. It's a pain to cut it free, but once out, reinstall with the new part went quick once I figured out the required glass position. Hook up the window switch and bump it to get things in the right spot. Workspace is VERY tight for full size hands.

No instructions come with the replacement. You'll need a 1/4" rivet gun. Dorman has instructions on their website and their 1/4" rivet gun is available online for under twenty bucks (search "Dorman 743-100" and take the top result).

My purchase also did not have the rivets included even though the box appeared sealed. The rivets I bought with the rivet gun were not long enough for the glass, but fine for the door-side mount. I used a couple of 1"x0.25" bolts with locknuts on the glass.

Even with a bunch of silicone on the door track, the final install works slower than the OEM motor, but if it lasts longer than the rebuilds, it'll be worth it. Good luck!

I purchased this since it was "in stock" - it's actually a Dorman piece. Upon opening up the door I found it much easier to just replace the motor - Pro Tip - Ford has two dimples above the two hidden 10mm hex bolts, a 1/2 inch drill bit and two holes along with a female T6 torx socket and the motor is out. No rivets, no changing the window out - nothing. The Dorman motor on this regulator will not fit the OE regulator properly. Do the whole repair in 25%-30% of the time with just the motor. THe whole regulator and spring assembly stays in the door, just block the window up while the motor is out and you're done!

Comments about CARQUEST Window Reg Power Window Regulator and Motor Assembly:

I'm so glad that I bought this part and fixed the window assembly myself rather than having a mechanic do it. Not only did I save a couple hundred dollars doing it on my own, but I also got some major cools points from my wife. Seriously, it cost only $20 more than buying only the motor and turned out to be much easier to replace. The only hassle was drilling out the rivets. Also, I don't have access to a pop-rivet gun, I just bolted the whole thing to the window and the door. All in all, a pretty straight forward repair job.

The part worked well and is installed, with a little modifcations had to be done only because the part is for multiple vehicles, had mounts on it that mine did not just had to take them off, only other problem is the part comes with rivits that i believe only a dealer has or you have to buy the tool i have two rivit guns and niether was big enough for rivits,so i bought 6 stainless steal nuts and bolts and lock washers along with loctite. At the end of the day all nice and tight and works well, other then a couple modifcations fit like a clove and will use the product again thanks Advance Auto for having the part in stock

This is a direct replacement with the motor attached. Thank God. There is a huge spring on the original and replacement regulator. Its a huge pain to put a new motor on the old regulator so its nice that this one comes with it attached. A very reasonable value as well being that a replacement motor costs as much as this regulator and motor.

Should I replace the motor or the entire assembly? The motor will run if I bang the door with my hand. Seems to glide easy enough when it runs. Advice?

                        A:

Hi Brett, it sounds like a window motor fail! If you hold down the switch in the ON position and bang on the door panel, the window sometimes starts to work. If it does, this would indicate a failing window motor. It's not necessary to replace the entire regulator assembly, just replace the motor. If you can tell me your vehicle's year, make, and model, I can suggest correct window motor available for that vehicle.
