Comments about Carquest Wearever Parking Brake Cable:

This product is not a direct replacement for the 2000 Olds Intrigue. Short of bending the metal on one end and using a spring clip (not on the original) this will never work on this car. Returned it and bought one from the dealer.

Does Not Fit my 2000 Intrigue

Comments about Carquest Wearever Parking Brake Cable:

The only way this part would ever fit my 2000 Intrigue is if I would fabricate a different bracket for the car. Here's what I encountered:

I first noticed that the Tru Torque cable's jacket was heavier than the OEM cable (so far so good,) but the dynamic cable inside it was bare, as opposed to the OEM cable which was sheathed in vinyl for corrosion resistance and smoother operation. The lack of that sheath was disappointing, but I accepted this, reasoning that I am working on a ten-year-old car and the Tru Torque cable was cheaper than an OEM cable would have been.

Nested in the 'coupling sleeve' (?) on the threaded 'inboard' end of my OEM cable, there was rusted an approximately 1" long ovaloid 'barrel-nut'(?) I have no idea what it looked like when new, but nothing of the sort was included with the Tru Torque cable. Instead, one ordinary nut was included. My rusted, OEM 'barrel-nut' was unsalvageable and, realizing how much one ordinary nut would allow this threaded end of the cable to loosely wobble in the coupling sleeve, I located a couple of flanged locknuts and prepared to sandwich the included nut between them (flanges facing outward) to approximate whatever had been threaded onto the original cable. (I knew jamming three nuts together wouldn't allow very convenient adjustment, but it'd work and stay put.

Unfortunately then, I found that at the 'elbowed' wheel or 'outboard' end, the Tru Torque cable is far too unlike the OEM cable to work: Mislocated flats on the Tru Torque cable 'aimed' the cable's elbow up or down instead of toward the car's centerline, and even if its flats were properly oriented, no retaining clip is included to keep the Tru Torque cable's round flanged end in the brake assembly bracket! The OEM cable uses neither a round flange nor a clip, but rather a barbed plastic retaining pin, pushed through a hole in the OEM cable's teardrop shaped flange - and a corresponding hole in the bracket.

I considered my options and ended up returning this Tru Torque cable, which turned out to be a complete and irritating waste of my time. By taking the time to write this, I hope to save another the trouble I had AND send Tru Torque back to the garage and drawing board.
