Good overall performance but they smell like burning wire when they heat up. Made me think my truck was on fire.

Good enough for the price, but not perfect.

Comments about Carquest Wearever Gold Semi-Metallic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

While the price was good, the edges of the backing plates had to be ground a little to fit into the caliper. Also, as noted by others, the two curved separating spring are not supplied with these pads, so save your old springs!

Comments about Carquest Wearever Gold Semi-Metallic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

I have no complaints about the Wearever Golds for normal use. Infact they are installed currently on my 09 and 07 Cobalts, had them on a 93 Chevy K1500, 87 and 89 Nissan Hardbodies and 95 Saturn SL2. For the F-350, the ones I bought 3 months ago were not made correctly- The Late 99-04 Ford Superduties have separating pins that go in the base of the pad. There were no holes drilled for the pins. I had to modify the pad to get the pins in. In the long run, the mods failed and brakes began to grab without pressure. I just installed Wagner Severe Duty pads, as they will take loads better. I am disappointed in this set of WearEver Golds.

Bottom Line- I would recommend these pads under light duty or normal use. Any heavy loads (1000 lbs +) or trailering, go with heavy duty brake.

Comments about Carquest Wearever Gold Semi-Metallic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

They work good with no fade, however, they start a grinding noise at about 10 mph on slowing down. Almost at a stop they vibrate against the rotors so bad that they make the sound of a low pitch tuning fork. I will be taking them back and getting a better quality brake pad.

Replaced the original pads in my 2003 F350 4x4 (truck has 53000 on it) They work great as I tow a 3500# trailer with a 250 gal water tank and they work great. No fade at all.

Comments about Carquest Wearever Gold Semi-Metallic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

Good pad for an OEM replacement. No noise of any kind or brake squeal after about 2000 miles. One issue I did notice was that they may be slightly thicker than the origianl OEM's because after my test drive I noticed some brake fluid had come out of the master cylinder (it was now overfilled). I did change all four rotors and pads on the pickup and have an intuitive sense the pedal was way more responsive than when I'd first drove the truck (I'm the original owner). I blew it off, and am confident I've never added brake fluid to the resevoir. So I extracted a small amount of fluid to get things back in the "Full" marks and all is right as rain now.

            • Q:

I just bought these pads and found there are no holes on the back sides to allow for the springs that came OEM. There are other brands in your catalog with springs. Did I get the right pads? Will no springs make any difference? Is it safe to install without springs?
