Direct replacement Wheel Cylinders are designed to fit specific vehicle applications and to ensure a proper fit every time. Normal wear may cause piston seals to leak. Corrosion and pitting can also occur inside Wheel Cylinders as moisture builds up in the brake fluid. A leaky Wheel Cylinder can be dangerous to the driver, causing gradual softening of the brake pedal and creating brake pull to one side.

      Good replacement for 1988 Cadillac DeVille. Last ones made it about 14 years, mostly city driving. Can't beat the price anywhere for exact same quality or manufacturer. Used the online 20% off and did even better. Hope these will last fourteen years as well. Using synthetic brake fluid this time around.

          We used to rebuild cylinders, hone them out and install the kit. When a kit costs $8.00 and a cylinder costs [$] what's the point? When installing the whole cylinder you need not remove the shoes, with a kit you would. You may find that you need an E8 Torx socket to remove the bolts only to find that it won't fit in the available space (GM has an odd sense of humor) . Try a ¼ inch closed end wrench instead, should work fine.

                Hi Kyle, if the wheel cylinder leaks the brake light would come on. However, I would suggest you to take your vehicle and thoroughly checked with a certified local mechanic before buying the parts that may/may not solve the problem.

              If it fits both sides than why can't it be clearly listed as doing so?
              the heading says left rear, and when you click "More" (info) it says that it fits both sides. What good is information if it isn't clear?

                Sorry for the confusion caused. This Tru-Torque Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder - part# W37677 is for rear and it fits for both driver side(left) and passenger side(right).

                What's remarkable is your question was asked two and a half years ago, and never mind the helpful correction below, the basic information for the product is now even more confusing than ever. I see it indicated as only working for the right side. What's wrong with AAP that they can't catch and FIX documented product descriptions?

                A:

                Parts can become worn out or punctured or even pulled apart by road debris. Bleeder bolts, sometimes called bleeder valves, are located on the brake calipers and are designed to allow brake fluid to flow out of the system. If you've recently had some brake work done on your vehicle, it may be that one of your bleeder valves was inadvertently left a little loose. If that's the case, it's a simple matter of tightening the valve to stop the fluid flow.

                Depends on what your specific vehicle. I have changed these out and have seen them held in by normal hex head bolts and I have seen these held in with the Torx head bolt (star).
