Comments about Carquest Wearever Brake Rotor - Rear:

These are an excellent replacement rotor. Exact fit, installed very easily. So far they brake smooth and feel great. As mentioned in another review, these rotors don't come with a new rubber plug for the parking brake adjustment, but using the original is perfectly fine. My one and only gripe with these rotors is something that never occured to me before I installed them... The OEM Nissan rotors are painted in the thick mid-section, so they will not rust. Now that I've head these on for a couple months, the surface rust has set in, and it is extremely easy to see through the wheel. The shape of the front rotor doesn't show too much rust, but this rear rotor has a big red rusty center that is a little too obvious for my taste. If I had know, I might have paid a little more for a painted rotor.... But Im not going to replace these, they perform as needed so I'll deal with the rust.

Comments about Carquest Wearever Brake Rotor - Rear:

The overall inspection of the rear brake hardware on my 2006 Nissan Frontier revealed the "rotor/drums" to be in need of replacement.

I use the term "rotor/drum" because on my vehicle the rear axle uses a typical disc brake system for service braking (vehicle in motion) and a drum brake system for the parking brake in a conjoined design.

The disc brake hardware is open to visual inspection with the tire removed, but to fully inspect the parking brake components the "rotor/drum" must be removed from the wheel studs.

This work was done at 68K miles and certainly the "rotor/drums" were the original and thus careful and patient hammering was required to break the corrosion fused "rotor/drum" from the wheel studs.

After inspection of the parking brake hardware including the brake shoe thickness, the old "rotor/drums" were discarded and after CLEANING WITH BRAKE COMPONENT SOLVENT to remove the factory wrapping residue, the new "rotor/drums" were installed using a MINIMAL amount of Permatex anti-seize at the mating surfaces for easier "rotor/drum" removal for future parking brake hardware access.

The new "rotor/drums" installed in a precise fit.

Reassembly carefully completed, tires mounted and master cylinder fluid level checked with cap snugged, I pumped the brake pedal for equilibrium and took to the street for the brake burnishing procedure.

Everything completed, the brakes operate correctly and with optimized stopping power. I returned to the lug nuts and caliper mounting bolts after a bunch of miles to insure nothing was loose.

The only "blip" in the product....and both "rotor/drums" were produced superbly....was the omission of a new rubber plug for the inspection port that allows a view of the parking brake shoe lining thickness inside the "drum". I cleaned and used the original plugs which were fine. I suppose you could also do without them.

The work was fun and the vehicle now brakes first rate.

For the price, these rotors are exceptional. Heavy duty construction, with thicker breaking walls, yet lightweight to install.

                  A:

What I always do when I replace brake rotors is spray them off with brake cleaner and then wipe them off thoroughly. Once they are cleaned, Take some fine sand-paper and scuff up both sides of the rotor surface. Then I take the brake pads and scuff the mating surface of them on some concrete and then install the parts. This scuffing helps with the brake pads seating along with the brake rotors.
