I replaced all of my rotors and brakepads at the same time. There are a lot of options out there for performance, but since I'm not planning on doing a lot of towing or heaving hauling, I thought I'd go more of the "wallet sensitive" route. I've used Wearever rotors and pads in the past, and never had an issue with them.

Installation of brake pads and rotors are relatively simple, but you should have some basic shop equipment such as a jack, jackstands, brake cleaner, clamps to compress the brake calipers, a metal coat hanger to hang the caliper, and a heavy duty 1/2" torque wrench for the lugs... which have specs significantly higher than I would have guessed (consult your owners manual for the lug torque info).

The removal of the old rotor can be a pain in the butt as rust tends to build around the center mount and, combined with parking brake dust and rust, can make it a chore. When you get it off, be sure to clean up the mount with some 220 grit sandpaper. I also used the opportunity to do the same to the parking brake shoe and take off any dust buildups. Make sure you flush everything with brake cleaner before you put on the new rotor.

Back to the product, I obviously won't know about the value of this product for years to see how it wears and performs with some age and mileage on it. Initially, however, swapping all of these parts took care of the the vibration on hard braking and it stops as well as I could expect.

While I'm "wallet sensitive", I try not to be pound foolish. If your brake rotors are showing any significant wear, and your brake pads are in need of replacement, just swap them all at the same time. It'll cost you a few more bucks up front, but it'll help keep them old rotors from messing up the new pads and save you time and/or money in the future.

I understand the price is cheap but really. I took these rotors out of the box to find that only two surfaces were machined, the face for mounting and the braking surface. The rest of the rotor was just a bad casting very rough with big metal chunks missing. I took them right back. Not sure if it was just a bad set I have used this brand before with no problems.

Comments about Carquest Wearever Brake Rotor - Rear:

Perfect for the everyday driver. Make sure you clean the rotor first as there is a light oil on them for packageing reasons. Also use new brake pads (with hardware) or the performance and feel of your brakes will not be as good as they should be.

I ordered them online only to find I ordered the wrong ones. Mine needed the 6 hole and I ordered the 7 hole rotors by mistake. They swapped them out in the store with no problem. It's been a couple of weeks and so far so good!

what is the point of the black coating shown on the rotor in the picture? is this coating actually on the rotor?

To prevent the hats from rusting, which isn't pretty to look at behind the wheels. However I just received a set and they did not have the coating, so I'll be returning them.

They should come as a set and you should change both of them at the same time because if you only change one it can cause problems with uneven pressure on the pad when they are applied and you will feel it by the car pulling, shaking, or other problems. Always change in sets.
