This pump comes with both gaskets needed for the job and a nice step by step procedure for anyone who might need it. The gaskets alone are $10 a piece so take that into consideration when looking for a cheaper unit. Also I suggest getting new water pump bolts when doing this replacement.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

Manufacturing quality far from OEM. Very roughly made. Works, so far no leaks.

Used a load of RTV on the paper gaskets, hopefully won't have to scrape it off in a couple months due to a pump failure.

OEM lasted since 1999 for 255k mi, leaking slowly and leaving gunk everywhere on the engine. Had to replace cuz the drip became a waterfall.

BTW metal gaskets with molded rubber are designed to fail due to scale accumulation, heat, pressure.. Use paper ones with RTV.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

I replaced this water pump on my 2003 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8L engine. I would smell coolant after a long drive and would only see a drip or two under truck when parked. My coolant leak was NOT at the weep hole on the pump. The very small seepage was between the water pump and the block at the factory installed pump gaskets. I installed the new pump with the paper gaskets that are included and that solved the problem. I also replaced the A/C belt because I had easy access to it. Fan belt and thermostat was replaced also. This pump lined up and installed easily. Dont forget to pick up a couple of gallons of coolant also.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

Although the water pump that was on my truck hadn't failed, I replaced it anyway since I was changing the heads on my truck. This thing wreaks of great quality right out of the box. Compared side-by-side to the OEM water pump I took off, I saw literally zero difference.

It comes with the pump-to-block gaskets and also your choice of o-ring or felt gasket for the thermostat. The fitment was exactly as expected and the lifetime warranty is hard to pass up.

This was a warranty replacement for a pump purchased in 2012 that went bad after 20,000 miles. The first was absolutely OEM style but didnt last. This warranty replacement gives me even less confidence. It is not the same specification. The inspection cover on the back is pressed in not screwed on and the gaskets are not the OEM Oring type. Also there's no weep hole. The first one they sold me had all those features. Plus the casting itself is very rough compared to the first. Seems they may have switched to a cheaper vendor, and it shows.

I bout this pump a couple years ago. I have about 20,000 miles on it. Can you tell me what material the impeller is made out of? My pump seems to be no longer circulating the antifreeze. Has there been any failures on this pump?

                        A:

Good question Ricky! Yes, it is recommended to replace the clutch fan when replacing waterpump since the fan clutch and water pump share a common shaft. The chances are high that the operation of one will affect the operation of the other. If the fan clutch bearing wears out then the fan will wobble. The vibration from this wobbling fan blade will be transmitted to the water pump bearing which will cause it to wear out quickly. Likewise, a worn water pump bearing will cause the bearing in the fan clutch to wear out, due to the transmitted vibrations. If this water pump is replaced without replacing the fan clutch, then the worn fan clutch will cause the new water pump to fail. That's why it is very important that the water pump and fan clutch be replaced together.

After that time expires, it can only be exchanged for a new item. So the warranty is valid for the life of the part as long as the customer owns the vehicle.

This pump has a 2.05 diameter which is for the pre-2004 versions of the pump. So, this pump worked with the OE thermostat housing for my 2002 Suburban. This housing uses the O-ring that comes with the pump. The pump also comes with the thick paper gaskets that go between the pump and engine block. I used a thin coat of blue RTV on both sides of the paper gaskets.

                        A:

The ToughOne or GMB New Water Pump - Part No. 130-7340 come with a bottom weep hole. To tell if a water pump is defective follow these steps: Check for shaft seal failure by carefully inspecting the water pump weep hole. When a water pump is new, some seepage is normal in the initial hours of operation as the seal seats. Other than that, any leakage that occurs is due to seal failure and the pump needs replacement. There may be tell tale trails of rust, calcium and coolant deposits on the water pump housing with the weep hole as the origin. Detect a worn water pump bearing by checking for side-to-side play at the shaft. There should be no perceptible play as you apply hand pressure to the shaft. Accelerated bearing wear is characterized by screeching or rumbling noises coming from the water pump housing. If any of these conditions exist, the bearing is worn out and the pump should be replaced. The New Water Pump from GMB includes the gasket. It is recommended to replace the timing belt while replacing the water pump.

The pump does contain paper-type gaskets where it mates up against the engine block and both an o-ring and a paper gasket for the thermostat housing. However, you only use one or the other at the housing per the included instructions.

Also, I think the other answer you received should have recommended replacement of the serpentine belt, not the timing belt.

Yes, it includes two paper gaskets for the pump to engine block and an O-ring and paper gasket for the thermostat housing (you just use one of the two). Also, use some RTV on both sides of the paper gasket.

                        A:

The larger pipe should be the heater inlet port.
