  • Two Bolt Holes Were Wrong

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

Two bolts holes were wrong. One was supposed to be threaded and was not. Went to the store becuase I bought this online and they checked the other two they had on the shelf and both were also not threaded. I used their tap in the store to thread it in case the tap damaged the part so they would pay for the damaged part not me. Threading worked fine but took me about 30 minutes and a trip to the store.

Second bolt hole did not fit the bolt well. It had a metal sleave in it and I had to use a dremel to route out the sleave in order to get the bolt through. Before I routed out the sleeve, I had tried to install the bolt and dorked the threads. Had to run out an find a die to try to reset the threads on bolt and fortunately it I reset the threads. If I could not then the bolt would have been a booger to find.

Overall these two simple bolt problems added about 3 hours to my job time.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

After 1 year, I got a low coolant warning message. This water pump leaked like crazy. See the photos. I spent hours to remove the brittle old gasket stuck on the engine. I hadn't used any sealant but only the gasket included in the box. It was totally messed up. The only good thing was I got full refund. Coolant, labor, and time were not reimbursable. I installed oem pump this time. I don't recommend this water pump to anyone.

This product fit like an OEM part on my 2000 S500. Why pay MB $1100 when you can do it yourself for a few hundred dollars. This job is very easy, a 2 on a scale of 10. It only takes a few hours after 10 minutes of research online.
My thoughts. You will need both female and male Torx bits... When you remove each bolt, put it where you removed it from on the replacement water pump, this will aid you during installation...
          !!!Remember only use MB coolant!!!

          • Probably on an SLK320

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

My car's water pump was failing. The vehicle registered on advancedautoparts.com shows up as "2002 Mercedes-Benz SLK32 AMG 3.2L 3199CC V6 FI Supercharged," so there is no doubt what model we're talking about. As most of you probably know, when you search for parts, Advanced will pull up "Exact Fit" and/or "OE" spec parts for the registered vehicle.
For my car it pulled up a "GMB New Water Pump" Part No. 147-2250 for $131. "Type of Fit: Exact." So I ordered one. The pump arrived promptly and after my mechanic dug down in the cramped engine compartment, he discovered it was NOT EXACT, not even close, and not usable, having two major differences from my present OE pump.
So now I've wasted time ordering and waiting for the part, and taking it in for installation. I have to pay the mechanic for disassembly and reassembly of the engine. I have to take the part into a local store for a refund, and the guy there couldn't believe the online store made such a mistake.
Next I have to find the correct pump somewhere and wait for it to arrive. (The Mercedes dealer wanted $500 so the only reasonable thing to do was find one online.) The whole thing should have taken four days, but because Advance screwed up, it took nearly two weeks; wasted time and money.

The pump was well finished and was a perfect fit with no interference with moving parts. No leaks and a nice gasket. Same brand and part number as pumps sold for more by online specialty shops. Seems to be a good pump, I put it on today and we'll see.

Advance Auto Parts does sell Made in the USA products as well as products manufactured from many other countries in order to keep our pricing competitive. Please also keep in mind that many suppliers have multiple manufacturing plants that could result in different countries of origin for the same part. I am sorry that the information about the origin of a product is highly confidential. As the manufacturers may have different warehouses in several countries, the origin of the products may accordingly vary.
