Installed on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L. It is fairly simple install. On the JGC, you'll need to (obviously) remove the serpentine belt (I suggest replacing this at the same time as the water pump, if you haven't recently done so) as well as remove the lower idler pulley. You'll also need to loosen the center-most alternator retaining bolt, as well as remove the two alternator bolts on the driver's side of engine, and swing the alt. up and out of the way to make room for the R&R of the pump. Nothing else will need removed/moved.
If you don't drain the system prior to the R&R, you'll lose roughly 1/2-3/4 gallon of coolant in the replacement of the water pump when you disjoint it from the block.

10/20/13 purchased 1st water pump and installed. 10/25/13 water pump began leaking out the front seal. 10/26/13 installed 2nd water pump through warranty exchange. 10/28/13 2nd water pump began leaking out front seal. 10/30/13 returned for refund. There must be a run of manufactured pumps where the front seals were installed dry or shafts are not machined smoothly enough to prematurely wear out the front seals.

I chose this brand new waterpump cause it didn't require a core. Fits perfectly and has all new components. So an oversight in a rebuild is not going to happen here. Buy new and enjoy confidence in the part your installing.

A replacement WP on my 2004 Jeep WJ daily driver. Good fit, worked well but failed (leaking) prematurely at 3 yrs, 27K miles. Jeep is well maintained, carefully driven, no towing. If you plan on keeping vehicle, recommend going OE replacement.

What causes my truck to leak liquid from front of engine after it has been driven and water pressure builds up in engine? It will not start leaking untill a day later and doesn't leak a great deal. It has no leaks in radiator or hoses. This has me scratching my head!! A friend said it sounds like a cold water leak. Is there a possibility that the water pump has a crack in it?

                    A:

It could be possible that there is a crack in the water pump, also there are many other spots where the liquid might leak from, say the thermostat or a bolt depending on what type of vehicle you drive. I would recommend taking it in to a reputable mechanics shop to have them take a look at it so that you can make sure you are replacing the correct part and also make sure that it is not another issue altogether.
