Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

I have three taurus and replaced waterpumps on two of them. I am planning on replacing the last one and ordered the pump on line. I picked it up and they gave me a Tough One brand. I thought it was just a reboxed, was I wrong. When I compared a Tough One to the GMB brand what a difference in quality. The GMB was higher quality in casting, impeller was twice as thick as the Tough One. The shaft was nearly twice as thick on the GMB. I took the Tough One back and exchanged it for a GMB since it was the same price. THe counterman said the number is the same for both and they sell which ever one the vendor sends to them. If you get the Tough One return it for a GMB brand. The Tough One should be a lot cheaper.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

Good quality but was not the exact style as on my 2001 Taurus. I replaced the waterpump at the same time I did the timing chain cover. I bought this pump because I wanted a pump that will last for another 100K miles. We will see how long it lasts. The brand was recomended by a friend. Ths pump does not have the circular cover over the fins as the OEM did.

                A:

The location of the water pump in a car can vary. On some cars check near or under the timing cover. If you're working with a front wheel drive vehicle there is a good chance the pump is on the front of the engine towards the fire wall

I have same trouble, and have been researching. Apparently, the Taurus is notorious for water pump impeller self-destruction. I will be changing mine on Wednesday.
