The water pump had been replaced once before with a pump also from ADVANCE Auto Parts and it lasted 9 years. Replacement can done with standard hand tools except for removing the fan clutch assembly. This will require a large adjustable wrench or large open end spanner approximately 32-33mm in size. Thoroughly and carefully clean the mounting surface before installing new pump. Clean bolt threads well to ensure correct torque. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross alternating pattern to ensure a good seal. Refer to torque specs available online for your model. One month of driving and no leaks!

Currently about to change the second one of these. The first one lasted all of one day and antifreeze ran out the weep hole bad lost a lot. The truck ran hot. Now the replacement they gave me has lasted almost 6 weeks and is leaking out the weep hole again. DO NOT Buy unless you like to tear all that stuff off the front of your engine and buy antifreeze and gasket sealer!!!!

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

Decided to remove AC and change bypass hose. Could be challenging to connect to old hose if AC bracket not removed, which required removal of alternator. Getting the clutch fan (without use of special holding tool) was difficult as finding a way to hold wp pulley took some effort. Once water pump was accessible, the removal and replacement was easy. Just a bit of extra work around both side of the task.

      Waste of Time...Incomplete.

      By

      from Quad cities, IA

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

I wanted new instead of remanufactured. This pump does not include the water fitting for the bypass hose to the intake manifold (not talking about the heater fitting). The old pump won't give up its bypass water fitting (essentialy welded together) so it was a complete waste of time. Took it back and got the re-man which has a water fitting. Could not possibly use it.

      Loud Bearings

      By

      from San Antonio, TX

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

First start up, I heard a loud growling noise. Broke it in for a little while and the noise went away. Now the belt sqeaks so I bought a new tensioner. It still sqeaks around the water pump area. Very annoying, So I'm hoping the noise will go away with time because I don't want to install another water pump.

Yes, the A/C compressor pulley and/or the water pump pulley can be what is making the squeaking noise. However with out the presence of your vehicle we cannot provide you with a 100% answer.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.TURNS OUT THE VILLAN IS THE CLUTCH FAN.WHEN IT STARTS TO GO IT PUT ALOT OF UNNEEDED STRAIN ON THE WATER PUMP PULLEY.IT CAUSED THE WATER PUMP TO GO BAD AT THE BEARING.BUT IT ISNT THE BEARING MAKING THE NOISE.IT SORT OF MAKES THE WATER PUMP PULLEY DRAG SLOWER THEN THE REST OF THE ENGINES COMPONENTS AND THAT IS WHERE THE SOUND IS COMING FROM.GOOD LUCK.

I had same problem, spray back of belt with silicone, if noise is less or goes away its the water pump. Don't spray ribbed side!

If this is a bird squeaking sound? It will most likely be the crank balancer rubber. Remove belt then crank engine,if it still squeaks it is bad, Replace it.
