Absolutely, positively , YES! On my 1992 Delta 88 Royale, 3.8 engine, the water pump is BEHIND THE MOTOR MOUNT! TIP, the engine has to be tilted up on the passenger side , to aid in removal of the very secure motor mount. It is the only way. Oldsmobile division did a maze on this one. NOT amazing. Someone should have told the truth about this job by now. Tilt the engine by means you feel safe and satisfactory to you. Also, the water pump has 2 locating pins holes. One of them or both of them could possibly come out with the old pump when removing it. They may be useless or not. You may think they are of purpose and spend their life with the pump, or fear of coolant leak after assembly or no leakage. The locating pins are pressed into the engine block. No great fear, they or it can be tapped out easily, if one comes out when removing the pump.So replace them or it, unless you think there will be no coolant leak after replacement.MY GOD!

                        • A:

You won't have the grooves on the pump because of the routing of the belt places the smooth side on the pulley

It's just the pump. You'll need to buy a gasket and gasket sealer too. IMHO
