Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

the plastic impeller was ome for a good reason. i just replaced my water pump, due to the impeller, if the plastic impeller had not let loose, the bearing was going bad. if the bearing had gone with the zero tolarance motor it could have thrown the timing off. causing more damage to the motor. if it had the metal impeller this could have been the case.

for the do it yourselfer, do yourself a favor and get a quality pump with a metal impeller, plastic was used at the time of mfg and vw had many problems with this. i got the cheap one here and 150000 miles later i am doing it again because i didnt do my homework on metal vs plastic.

Comments about CARQUEST Water Pump - New:

If I new it had a metal impeller, I would have not bought it for my 2.0L 2000 Beetle. The metal ones are the same price and last much longer than the 60k plastic ones. Only bought it because I didn't know until it was too late and could not wait for the right one to arrive. For what the part is, it was ok

          • Q:

Do they make these water pumps with metal impellars?
Asked on 1/26/2010 by Ash from Bellefontaine Ohio

            1 answer

            • A:

Yes and they are preferable because of longevity. The plastic impellers come loose on the shaft and cause overheating above idle.
