Installed this water pump on a 2000 Pontiac Montana. Easy to get to, right on top in front. Pulley bolted on with four bolts and easy to move over to the new one. Just use a screwdriver to hold the pump from spinning while you loosen the four pulley bolts. Five bolts holding the water pump in to the housing, you can't see them or get to them until you remove the pulley. But the pump changed right out. Make note of the location of the little arrow head cast into the top of the old and new pumps to line them up. New one works great. I would definetly recommended buying the new one for a couple bucks more than a reman. If your pump was leaking like mine and got all over the belt you better change that out while you're at it. You have to take the old one off anyway to change the pump.

Looks like original

Be sure to not overtighten the bolts to advoid stripping the threads. Looseing the pully bolts with the belt on helps.

Perfect fit on my 3.4 liter engine. Quality is as good as factory pump. Easy to install, just use a tire tool to push the belt out of your way and you can leave it on while installing. Comes with gasket all you need is a tube of gasket maker to hold the paper gasket in place while bolting on.

I'm happy to help, John! I was able to locate a couple videos with a quick search online. I recommend picking up a repair manual to make sure that you have the correct procedure and torque specifications as well. Part No. 38026. I have an 2001 Chevrolet Impala 3.4 engine. It was running hot and my fans were not coming on, so I replaced my radiator and fan. But when they poured antifreeze into radiator it spurted out, so then they told me I've blowed the head. But, my oil is not milky or smoke is not coming out my exhaust pipe. What do you think it is?

                  A:

If the water pump does not circulated the coolant, your car will overheat. Water pumps usually signal their impending demise. Most water pumps will emit a high pitched squeaking sound that is hard to miss. When you start to hear the squeak, you will only have a few days to fix the problem or risk being stranded. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. A:

If the coolant is allowed to get low, the water pump can't circulate it through the radiator at idle, so heat cannot be removed. Normally the pump can circulate even low coolant if the pump spins fast enough, so a low coolant level generally will not cause overheating at speed. If the low coolant level is accompanied by an expansion reservoir level that's much higher than normal, your rad cap or head gasket is suspect. Age, or the use of inexpensive silicated coolants will wear the water pump seals rapidly, causing premature leakage. The water pump has a small "weep hole" in it, and a noticeable drop in coolant level over several months is normal. You need to keep an eye on the level and top it up once in a while. If the engine starts to overheat at idle, or in heavy traffic, and the gauge goes down when you rev it, the coolant is probably low. Best to check.
