Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

Very large and heavy starter motor, but it is the identical stock replacement for my 1st gen GM V8. Very easy installation with only 3 bolts and few wires. Make sure to reuse your old mounting hardware, new bolts do not come in the package. Depending on the car there can be a lot of clearance issues getting the starter in position. Good product for price.

Like everyone else I am trying to save money. I have to replace a starter on my '84 Pontiac Gran Prix. I have watched the videos and have gotten the old one out. Of course it is not the same kind. So I need to know which wires connect to which post. Solenoid is attached to this one.

                  A:

Hi Geno! I am not sure what difference you see from the original to the replacement but, if your original starter had the big battery cable and one small wire hooked to it and the solenoid has two small terminals on it you need to connect your original small wire to the small terminal that is closest to the engine block. Or other words the inboard side.

              • Q:

I have a 92 Camaro RS (Came stock as a 305 tbi car with the t-5 manual trans). I recently put a 350 from a 91 camaro z28 in it, with my 305 flywheel. I am fairly certain this starter will work as i looked it up based on a 92 z28 350.
What's your opinion? Maybe shims might be needed?

                  A:

Yes, this part should fit your Chevrolet Camaro Z28 350. If you hear a grinding noise or a whining noise when your starter gets engaged then the starter needs to be shimmed and you may be in need of shims.

                Hi
I have a 1973 350 with a 1991 Firebird T-5 tranny with 153 teeth on the flywheel. I have 3 bolt holes for a starter, 2 that will work with a in line bolt pattern starter and 2 holes for an off set bolt pattern starter. The in line holes are 3-1/4" apart. Will this starter bolt up?
