Let's address the other comments, people never cease to amaze me.
1. Yes, the terminal section is made from heat resistant plastic, if it were metal it would short and be useless...Duh.
2. Yes, it come with a wire lead. If you need it use it, if you don't, don't. Not that hard.
3. Yes, it comes with no installation instructions. To address this I have taken the time to write a complete instruction manual. It is as follows:
Put the new unit on the reverse of the way you took the old one off.
Well there you go. It's a good product at a good price with a lifetime warranty.

Suspecting I needed a starter and wanting to get in and out of my mechanic's shop quickly, I purchased this for my mechanic to intall. He confirmed my diagnosis and installed this starter. After installation, he attempted to start the truck, only to have it blow a fuse. He de-installed it, checking to see if the new starter might be making contact with something and shorting out, but found it wasn't.

He re-installed it and blew another fuse. He de-installed it a second time and bench tested it to discover continuity between the solenoid and the starter body. This short should have been discovered during testing when it was remanufactured in Mexico. So my plans to be in and out quickly were dashed.

The good news is that when I returned it for a refund at Advance Auto Parts #1633 on State Street in Schenectady, NY, the clerk noted my agitation and asked what he could do to make it better. He offered me merchandise in the store totaling what I had to spend for the blown fuses. That he noticed my distress and then went on to diffuse it turned my whole attitude 180 degrees. I left with a big smile and the determination to make sure others know they can trust Advance Auto to make things right.

Worked like a charm....

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

Obviously way to soon to say if it'll stand the test of time. I wasn't expecting to have to do surgery on the ground wire but I got it done and it works just fine. First time I changed a starter on a 4x4 and the space was cramped, especially seeing how I was working on my back in the driveway but I was able to get it out and in without disconnecting the motor mounts or exhaust.

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

Being a novice auto mechanic (learning as I go), replacing a starter is pretty simple. So, we removed the original starter, installed this new starter, and it simply didn't work. We then started troubleshooting battery issues, electrical issues, etc. After wasting two nights after work trying to find the issue, I took it back to Advance Auto Parts and they "tested it" to ensure it was good. It passed their electrical test, but not the mechanical one. So, it was receiving electricity, but the rebuilt parts, internal to the starter, were not functioning properly. It was very frustrating, but I learned a lot in the process too, so there's the upside to the story. I ended up taking it to a local mechanic and they charged $150 to put in a better quality starter.

Original started got to where it wasn't engaging with flywheel every time. Pulled it out twice to check it. Finally replaced it anyway and the new oneis working fine.

For the Fords, this starter came with a new lead wire, Install it. I was not going to untill I saw the corrosion in the Ford wire as stated in the directions, a Ford TSB. Truck turns over now with no worries.

From the beginning this starter wouldn't disengage for a few minutes after starting when it was cold. I should have changed it immediatly but was lazy. Now it isn't ingaging every time and I have to take it back. At least it isn't that bad of a job (about 15 min out and 15 min in).

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

Very dificult to install in a 2004 Ford Explorer. Not the fault of the manufacturer. Ford placed the starter in a very tight and hard to get to spot. Took me several hours to install thanks to the very tight spot and stubborn bolts. It's been several weeks since I installed the part. So far, starter is working well. Much quieter than the orginal starter. As always, the price was good compared to starters sold by other auto parts stores which keeps me as a return customer.
