This starter replaces the original on a 1997 Ford F150 4.6 liter engine 4X4 Off Road Package. The original starter motor was still good but the solenoid was bad, had been failing in the usual manner due to grounding issues, corroded wire, etc. (common Ford problem with the spade type connector that they installed a fix for). Because I had banged the heck out of it and dummied up the solenoid a few times I thought I would treat the truck to a fresh NEW starter.

The design is great and the fit is perfect. When I bench tested it, it was loud but spun like a champ. The solenoid avoids the overtorque problems by giving you a pickup wire pre attached to the board and equipped with a crimp end covered in a heat shrink tubing. Excellent finish and attention to detail overall.

First start made the most unholy racket almost like the gear had spun, but the engine fired right up, so I shut it down and tried again. Many attempts later, I still get a loud noise when starting but I have come to realize that it is the high torque motor itself. Also, the starter gear seems to spin a bit after the truck fires (winds down for a second or two).

So the jury is out and i guess only time will tell. I sort of wish I had just changed the solenoid and had the whisper quiet start I came to expect. The new one woke my daughter up at 5 AM this morning when I started it. Oh well....

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

I run an adult day center where I use six shuttle vans to pickup our participants. One of our drivers alerted me to the fact that one of our shuttle vans wouldn't start. After a bit of self-diagnosing I determined that the starter had bit the dust. I got on the website and found the new starter in less than FIVE MINUTES and it was at my LOCAL STORE less than a mile away. As a business owner, I HAVE to be as frugal as possible so I was overjoyed to find a discount code that gave a GREAT DISCOUNT! I purchased the starter online, went directly to the store and they ALREADY had it out waiting for me in the time it took me to drive to the store! Amazing! To an old-school kind of guy, this kind of service just leaves me speechless! Found it on the internet on my phone and after a few short clicks- I'm standing at the store WHERE THEY HAVE IT WAITING FOR ME!. Astounding. Being a bit mechanically inclined, I took it back, took off the old, put on the reman, it tested out perfectly and returned the core! It may seem silly to be so enamored with a part store, but like I said- I'm speechless and amazed.

starter did start -ONCE- and that was all she wrote. Don't waste your time with this part. Just get you a big waste of time ---- also money. Being I purchased and OEM starter I lost the price of the core exchange for the Ford starter.

Comments about CARQUEST Starter - Remanufactured:

A neighbors starter failed. So an hour later I figured we would be done. We were done replacing the starter without issue. When starting the truck the starter was so loud it could be heard though out the neighborhood. The starter also had a higher than normal amp draw. Exchanged it for another one, now 3 hours in, we still weren't done. This one was almost as noisy. We ordered a Motorcraft rebuilt starter. The store manager agreed to refund the $$$. I brought the truck to him to hear to before and after results and he agreed it was considerable. I usually don't have part issues with Advance, but this part number is an issue.

                  A:

Hi Omarrodz, glad to assist you! This part carries a limited lifetime replacement warranty. The lifetime warranty part can be refunded for cash/credit within the 90 time frame. After that time expires, it can only be exchanged for a new item. So the warranty is valid the life of the part as long as the customer owns the vehicle.
